i am so happy to be going on my first trad hunt.it will also be my first spot and stalk.any tips would be great
Buy a knife from him... :goldtooth:
Edited cause my smiley didn't make it!
That is something I'd love to do. I'd listen pretty careful to Ray.
Though I've never hunted with Ray, his reputation precedes him, it should be an awesome hunt.
Ray should be able to get you into Hogs, then it's up to you and your shooting ability, shoot low and forward will get it done with a supper sharp Broadhead and heavy forward shaft well tuned.
You can get pretty close to Hogs, so, be patient.
Wear suspenders because your belt might get a little tighter! :D
Always hunt the wind!
If you jump a group of bedded hogs in real thick cover and they didn't get your wind, prepare for a shot down wind. They will often circle down wind of you to get your scent.
Don't eat too much!
Take plenty of photos.
Man, I could have fun with this one.. but I wont... :goldtooth: .
Dont be afraid to creep up on a feeding hog, and pick a spot.
From what I have heard; bring lots of things for him to cook for you :)
Yeah a bigger pair of pants is tops on the list. You are going to eat well!!!! Listen to him because he knows how to hunt them piney woods rooters! Might want to take a few old beat up broadheads as dilla-killas. Armadillos are everywhere and sound like a Sherman tank trying to sneak thru the woods!
you guys don't know how much i am looking forward to this hunt.i am going to keep my shots 15 yards and under. just hunting with Mr.hammond will be a thrill
take lots & lots of arrows & something to resharpen broadheads that miss the target (not that you will) :)
Learn the lyrics to "Baby Got Back" so you can rap, too. :readit: :jumper:
Easy hunting for a Tennessee boy....flatground and unbelievable swamps.
You're gonna like it!
that will be nice.the place i hunt i have to walk for a hour up and down.if i get something i plan on mounting it since it will be my first deer or pig with trad.its going to take me 6 1/2 hours to get there.going to have to get up early on friday
- Bring one of those big support belts so you don't bust a gut or blow out your back when you are rolling around laughing.
- Pack an extra roll of $20's if you plan on betting Ray will miss a pig.
- Wear protective eyewear when Ray pulls a broadhead out of his quiver so you don't cut your eyeballs looking at them.
- Get some kevlar gloves if you plan on handling his knives.
- Lose 10 pounds before going so you will only be 10 pounds over weight when you return.
- Go ahead and put your house up for sale now and take resumes with you to hand out in the area...because you will want to move down there after you hunt it.
- Take your calendar with you so you can rebook immediately.
- Invest in anti-gator spray...oh wait...they'll be sleeping this time of year.
- Bring three thermacells and a month supply of refills...oh wait...(see above).
- Shoot em where Kingwouldbe said, everything else will take care of itself.
- Do NOT poke Ray in the belly and expect him to giggle like the Pillsbury mascot.
- Take a camera and plenty of film/digital storage.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Enjoy one of the best hunts you'll ever go on and one of the finest fellers you'll ever meet!
only a day till i go
why, JC, you're makin' me blush. You did forget one thing, though. He's gonna meet "Mike" !!! :scared:
Keep an eye out for cougars!!!!
Ron
Don't bring your fun meter....or you'll spring it. :readit:
take a camera and use it - often
If you got some old arrows with old broadheads or sufficient small game points I'd bring them for squirrels.
Last month Ray said they were fair game. They're all over down there and worth taking a shot at. I didn't want to lose a good arrow in case I missed but by day three was awfully tempted.
Listen carefully to everything Ray tells you, you will learn something. He knows what he is doing. you will have a blast. If he is carrying his Shawnee, something is gonna die.
Danny
If he drops you off somewhere around 10am and says he's going on the other side of the swamp, he's really going back to camp for a nap........
What was that movie made a few years ago not to far from Ray's place? Believe it starred Burt Reynolds and featured a banjo player. Yea, just listen to Ray. You'll have a time to remember and you can just about guarantee something will get stuck. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
"With or without?" mean grits when you are down that far.
Have a ball and post lots of pictures when you get back.
Hide the Amarula!
Now curveman just what do you know about "Amarula". If it is good enough for the elephants, it should go over just fine with Ray.
Going down in March and from the sound of this thread, I'd better start a serious diet right now. Can't wait
Trumpeting, trumpeting...............there's no graemlin for that...we need one. Amarula..me likely amarula.
its going to be easy to get up at 3:30am to drive to SC.its going to be fun but cold realy cold
Get Mike to finish this sentence:
"I'm as country as three...................."
He opened up a whole new world to Wyatt while we were there. We loved it.
Oh,take a snuffer bottle. Watch the wind. Have fun. Lin
Love Sharpster's comment on watching for cougars!
