The last few times out have been interesting, saw some big guys, but set up the decoy wrong and they came in from the wrong side.
Buckie the $3.00 wonder decoy has been doing his part , but not so much me.

Shoot thru netting is fine, but not shoot thru canvas. LOL
I moved and set up Buckie , in a better spot, 18 yards out and as usual he sucked in another one.

I had the Jack kempf Little grizzly 50" 50# flatbow this time, and some prototype 300Xtreem heads , on CX Rebel hunter arrows with 100 gr inserts. 740 grains of destruction traveling at a blistering 135 FPS.
The little buck came ready for battle, thrashing every brush and stick on the way. LOL
He had a close look at Buckie and wandered over towards the blind , to tear up another stick in the grass. 15 yards in front of me. Last fall I chased a big one and went hungry, so this year I was not going to be picky at all.
Just as I released the arrow for the classic broadside shot he turns toward me. Damm. I hear a crack , bones are being busted. The arrow is half way into the front shoulder as he heads out tail down hell bent for leather. This was a real bad hit.
A bit of time later I look for the trail, and it looks good, real good.

The head after the fact.

I am going to butcher him today and see just what the 300 gr Xtreem did to the bones, but he feels pretty broken up.
I just rec'd the final version of the 300 Xtreem and took them out on the Titan.

It shoots the same arrow, 740 gr at 152Fps, with a point on of 20 yards and dead silent.. Should be good Moose medicine if I can locate one again.

Now that my Buck tag is filled The big bucks are not even showing me any respect!! Had a huge 8 point walk past me at about 30 yards last evening without a care in the world. He didn't even look at me, and I was standing in the open.. Saturday One stood in front of the blind for 5 minutes at 25 , then behind it for a few minutes more.at 20yards.
I was just thinking about "Buckie" this morning and eying some cardboard in the shop. Thanks for posting his pictures again. And good shooting on the eater buck with the Xtreme. Looking forward to the autopsy.
Congrats! Very nice blood trail indeed!
Looks like good penetration on a "bad" hit. That's one tough broadhead.
That was with the original prototype 300, the new version just arrived and the tip is a tanto, and the width is slightly smaller.
Pete
Pete, do you purposefully set your bows up so the point on is that close by length/weight of the arrow or is that just a by product of heavy weight and EFOC?
This is something I've been wondering about for some time, set up a bow so the point on is about 25 yards or so. Seems like this approach would have a lot of merit.
Thanks :)
Way to go Pete! Gotta love those Extremes, I love mine. With the right kenetic energy behind them not much that would stop them this side of solid rock or steel. I busted up a rib on entry and the off shoulder of a good size bear with one earlier this fall. I've downgraded my Silver Flames to second best broadhead on earth.
I was wondering when we were going to see one of Buckie's adventures this year. Man, that decoy is neat.
400 grains up front on a 740 gr arrow and 29" arrows for a 27" draw just end up to have a point on this close on that bow. Every bow is diferent.
Well done Pete, nice setup there. I've got to try a decoy someday.
I thought the new ones were little wider than the prototypes...at least my newer ones are wider than my two protos. Either way, "Extreme" is a fitting name, I couldn't imagine hurting one without a plasma cutter. I've got these on all my arrows right now: I'm shooting 640gr at about 180 or so...thumpin!
Congrats Pete! Great story and reveiw!
Nice job on both bucks, looking forward to the post mortem autopsy

Thanks. I realize every bow is different, just curious if you set this up with this specific purpose in mind.
I like the looks of these heads... now I'm gonna have to tril some myself here in Oz.
Well done Pete.
I set it up for close shooting, but the 20 yard point on just worked out that way.
Pete
Pete, I made a "Bucky"/"Flossy" combo decoy(removable antlers) last year and have used it only a few times. Only saw one deer while using "Flossy" and enjoyed watching the youngster feeding and wondering if Flossy was gonna kick his butt.
What is the best set up for the decoy(Bucky). Pointing towards? away? forwards? backwards?, What distance? Sorry for all the questions! I hunt from a tree stand. Pat
Pat:
I set him up about 15 to 18 yards out with his but toward me.Sometimes closer, just depends on the terrain. I also want him to be in a position that if some dummy shoots at him , the arrow will not be heading my way.
Deer seem to like to aproach from the rear , so if I put his rear to me they should come in between Buckie and me.
Pete
Thanks Pete. Me and Bucky are going out in an hour or so. I thought I'd dress the area with some dominant buck scent just for giggles. I set this stand up months ago with Bucky in mind so I should be sitting pretty if we are approached. We'll be on my property so I shouldn't have to worry about the other idiots. Pat
