Hello,
Well I am looking at ordering Bubinga limbs (highly figured/waterfall preffered). Any recommendations on a riser wood that would go well with Bubinga? Any pictures would be appreciated. Thanks.
Usually one picks a riser wood then limb lams to go with that.
Highly figured Bubinga would look good of course.
Rosewood, Cocobolo
I have a Wildfork Phantom, the riser is waterfall bubinga with a swoop of gaboon ebony and the limbs are bacote back and belly, looks beautiful. For me I like a darker wood in riser to give the limbs some contrast, may be like a macasser ebony or a bacote or maybe a cocobola.
Ebony, Zircote, Katalox, or a combo with Bubinga. I think a bow of all one wood looks sharp. Bubinga with a saddle of ebony.
Bubinga comes in varying colorations. Is it slightly on the reddish side or brownish?
Thanks for the advice thus far. Sure is difficult making up my mind.
I have a Martin Serengeti with a Bubinga riser and Zebrawood limbs. It is a pretty combo. I don't know anything about exotic wood so I don't know if Zebrawood is a good riser material or not.
As snag said, my bubinga riser is much more red than brown.
Just a thought.

A figured Shedua riser would make a great contrast with the Bubinga. I had Ric Anderson build a Thermal for me that had Shedua and Bubinga in the riser and Zebrawood limbs. By the time Ric added his maple and bloodwood accents to the riser, it was a knockout looking bow.

I have a curly maple/bubinga combo on one of my Zipper risers.A solid bubinga or ebony riser would also look real good with those limbs.
Waterfall bubinga makes a pretty dark limb. I like contrast in my bows so I would go with a lighter riser wood. I think I would like an osage riser with a bubinga flair to match those dark red limbs. Or curly maple with bubinga flair. Or myrtle, etc. Chad
Holm-Made makes 'em, I just look at 'em...but I'm kinda the opposite.
I'd be looking at a micarta/phenolic/ebony and bubinga riser with just an accent of something lighter. Maple, osage, or even hickory.
Of course, I like 'dark' bows anyways.
I think zebrawood would look nice with bubinga.
I was thinking dark and the blacker the better. I'm not gonna argue bows with Chad (check his site out) but my gut instinct was dark. Soilarch spoke my mind. Here is a picture of a bow that I used to own. :( I asked specifically for a dark piece of cocobolo and this was it.

How about a Bocote and bubinga riser? It'd be nice to have some bubinga in the riser to tie the limbs into the riser. It doesn't have to be much. It's all personal preference though.

I'm with Chad. I like contrast between the limbs and riser.
Some like "two-tone" cars and some don't.....
I would say Myrtle or Osage or a very light zebra wood. Bubinga, especially the reddish variant will have some orange or orange-red in it. Be careful with some of the darker woods that may have some green or purple in it (not literally green or purple but a hue....cocobolo is a good example of a wood that could have a purple hue, most ebony woods have a greenish hue). That wouldn't be an attractive contrast in my opinion.

The bow I had that was Macassar Ebony was black to a dark brown. That could work. But you really need to see the Bubinga to be able to make a suggestion.
I think cocobola is the prettiest stuff around.
My favorite is a combination of either Cocobolo or Macasser Ebony laminated with Bocote for a riser. I would recommend the Bocote as the main wood and either Cocobolo or Macasser Ebony as the accent in the center of the riser. Bocote will make an excellent contrast for your Waterfall Bubinga, will have excellent natural camo qualities in the woods, and will contrast nicely in the riser with either the Cocobolo or the Macasser Ebony.
