hey guys, anyone know how to get blood out of wool. I have white columbia brand bibs and coat and the legs of the bibs too the knees are covered in blood and I'd like to get them clean. They say dry clean only.
Use some warm soap and water and scrub the spots with a dish rag. Rinse them out good and hang them to dry.
A little bit of peroxide mixed with war water to get out the stubborn stuff helps sometimes and club soda has been known to work. Wool is tough though with set blood.
Sometimes you can crush up some Alka-Seltzer and pop it in water and use that as a cleaning solution.
Pereoxide and cold water has worked for me also. Just pour on the peroxide and work it in with a small brush. Repeat several times, then rinse in cold water. If you have some Oxyclean laundry soap lying around, it will work too. First thoroughly soak the area in cold water. Then sprinkle on some oxyclean, rub it in gently and let it soak for a while. Then sort of hand wash the area. That should get most of it out.
I'm not sure this will work, so if you try it do so on a hidden or very small spot to test. My wife and I have used that oxyclean powder mixed with warm water to get blood spots out of our wool carpets many times with great success. We have an unfixed female dog that drips sometimes if she doesn't have her diaper on correctly.
Our wool carpet is color dyed however, and I have no idea if the wool would be similar enough, so I can't guarantee it will work for you.
Cold water for blood stains, not hot. Hot will set them. Soak in cold water and scrub with a stiff brush and detergent.
