Title: Sarah goes Elmer Fudd
Post by: Doc Nock on November 17, 2008, 02:04:00 PM
Our own self-taught bowhuntress, Sarah from Central PA shared she'd shot her first trad kill...a squirrel!

Turned out she lives close to where I still go back to hunt and although her busy college demands prevented us hooking up to hunt this past week, she did come out to where I was staying to meet my trad hunting buddy, Preacher Carl, and the dear, recently widowed Louise, I still call "Mom" where I stay when in town.

We'd just buried Louise's husband of 62 years in late Sept. Louise had asked if I knew anyone short enough to use Jack's ole hunting woolrich outfit. Well, Jack was 5 foot nuttin, so I thought of li'l ole Sarah!

She came out with her fella, Tyler and we all had a good visit. She went home with a bag full of Jack's ole hunting duds and Carl, who has triplet boys now 16, even found a lined camo shirt that fits Sarah's diminutive self!

I made her don her new hat and coat... and get a pic for the troops here at Gang!   :)    If this doesn't motivate ya all to dig up some small cammie stuff for the young lass, nuttin will! Least she'll be warm out there! I learned she'd been hunting deer in carharts...       Not the favorite color for even bowhunting I'd think!

Elmer Fudd never looked so good.    :goldtooth:

What a great spirit Sarah has! We need more young women like her in the ranks! Tyler is just as cool and they were great to meet!

Now she's got the gear and we need to find her some folks to take her "under wing" up in Centre County so she gets lined out on some good basic hunting! Carl and the boys will do what they can but he has limited time and place.

Glad to see she is doing well, I got her hooked up with my good friends the Thomas's when she lived in IA over the summer, they went to shoots and built some bows but I was so busy around here I never had the chance to meet her.

Good stuff. She may start a new fashion craze. I wish my wife would wear something like that from time to time.

I saw that self bow...very nice job!

She is a true "hoot!" She is a great sport about wearing the outfit and knowing I was going to post the pic!

Herkimer...I know what you mean... We'd look silly in those hats and danged if she didn't make it look good!  :)

Hey, that was fast!

Dave, it was great to meet you/Louise/Carl as well. Hopefully we'll be able to get together in a few weeks to shoot a bit. Can't believe my luck with the plaid super-suit (and all the other goodies)!

Glad to hear you made it home safe.

Deer can't see that red and black plaid, but your gonna have to tone down that grin a little or they will spot you at 100 yards! Nice gear and the deer are in trouble.

Thanks, Sarah. Yup, busy road but it went well.   Seasons don't have to be open to hang and shoot...so we'll see. I think rabbit has been running well into Feb...so if you find a woodlot full of rabbits..we'll have at it!  :)

Shaun, you got that right. That li'l gal has an infectious smile and personality!

That lined woolrich is a bit toasty for early to mid season though. Being 5' nuttin herself, we'll find her some other hand-me-down gear for warmer weather!  :)

Great shirt! I am looking around for a couple of wool shirts myself. That Woolrich will last a lifetime!

Yeah...she DOES look good in that plaid!

"Lookin' good 'n doin' good," should be the title of this thread, Doc. Thanks for the heads-up - a real pleasure to read about folks like this thread is about. Best to all of you as the year and the sport(s) progress.

Killie,

That is one of the Woolrich suits...lined zipper coat and there were "britches" with zipper legs...but Jack had someone sew white leather giant knee pads...and they were a bit big around for Sarah...but she can have them altered some...

then there was a canvas/orange small game coat that fit her...and a flour.org hoodie jack wore over stuff... and then the hat or two, a warmer seat, and another hat.  That floppy eared Elmer Fudd one tickled me so we had her model it.

Carl added a lined camo shirt.

If her classes allow, she's comin to B'more to meet Killy for sure, she says! We're holdin you to that promise, Sarah! So you best start plannin courses to have that 3rd weekend off to get down there in May!  :)

Bernie, we have a great community here.

Good to see you postin Van...been a while. On another note, Van: Cool weather means I can send Sweetbreads! LOL  I've learned since, brother Van, they're not pancreas, but brains...or so a butcher told me!

thats some might fine clothes for sure! nothing as warm or as comfortable as wool and the red/black checkerd is an all time favorite.
I bet Killy and Sarah would get along well as both are great with a camera and share similar traits dealing with wildlife and appreciation of the great outdoors. i really hope both Killy and Sarah can make Shawns bunny hunt this year.

Everyone needs to hassle Killy to go to Shawn's bunny hunt so she can pick me up on the way!    :D

Otherwise, I'm done with Spring semester by the time the Baltimore shoot comes around, so I see no reason why you can't count me in.

Dave - managed to take off the white leather patches last evening. Underneath was just plain, undamaged plaid. I am going to need to get the pants tailored a bit as I look like a backwoods version of M.C. Hammer when I put them on now...but that shouldn't be a problem!

:biglaugh:  I asked Louise what made Jack put on those silly knee pads! They're HUGE! She wasn't sure, but Jack...oh, my, he was a unique soul.... miss the crumudgeon tremendously!  :(

Glad there was no damage. Now to snuggle up to Tyler's Mom to alter those britches... Course, with the suspenders, you could pack a waist belt with food and such and have it INSIDE them britches!  :)

That is great news about B'more! There is always a thread that starts weeks and weeks before on the special forum for shoots...

Not knowing where the heck I might land by then trying to find work, I can't make promises, and Carl sometimes runs amuck of early season weddings at that time and hasn't made it down last couple of years.

Regardless, there are sure enough folks that come down to B'mo shoot, that you should be able to hook up with someone close to Central PA to share gas and such.

Ken, from what Sarah has shared, sounds like Killy already took her under wing long distance and has been providing insights and some other items to get her started.  Sarah wants to come to meet her idle! You should get yer fanny down too!

With the time differential, I would never be caught. See, you got struck with an arrow that is covered with my fingerprints. But that was YESTERDAY, and we only started to rumble today, when I supposedly shot the arrow...and see? You are still alive! Face it, Jeffro, you are immortal!

Jeffro?

Oh, heavens, Killy... Killjoy? shoot...I've not so much as killed time this year! Well, maybe that!

Ken...I've been the target of a few onslaughts of Killy's pithy verbal wrath a time or two and survived... Can't banter as much as we all do at b'more and not cross wires a time or two...but she's such a gracious forgiver!

Now to get those britches to fit so's you don't wear deer colored Carharts to the woods! Yikes!

You guys can't be talkin' about the same, even dispositioned, level striding, peace keeping, Killie that I know and love -    "[dntthnk]"  It's all in how you talk to her - (or sometimes how you don't talk to her, come to think on it    ) (Watch for the narrowing of the eyes    )

She's the best friend you'll ever make though, Sarah.

Y'a got that right Mini-Grunt. Even though she can sometimes become "ruffled", she is one who will have your back no matter what!

Geeze...we gotta stop this...sounds like we're cannonizing the woman! She ain't dead yet!

Long live Killy Dear. Bohyahhh  :campfire:

Dave, I thought we were "cannon-balling" her                :D

(Killie's not allowed to "check out" before I finish my tour of duty, anyway. At least not without a "special disspensation chit" being issued first. I forbid it, and I have seniotity!)

Sen...? Oh, for a second without my reading glasses, I thought you typed you had "Senility", there, Bernie!  :)

I'd never cannon-ball, Killie. Tease her. Banter her to frustration. Pester. but never cannon ball her.

Then she might really hurt me! So far..just nasty looks on occassion!      :D

We were on the same page, Bernie...(which is downright scary enough right there!)

If'n someone did the waterhole cannonball to Kille...and got them long tresses wet... I think one would have problems beyond belief!

I'm crazy...but not stupid!

Hey-hey...no comments from the peanut gallery!  :)
