Title: Plain Jane: a hunting bow
Post by: Dano on January 02, 2007, 07:13:00 PM
A good friend of mine asked me to build him a bow he could take to the woods and not worry about dropping it out of the stand, hence the name "plain Jane". Did I mention the guy has the draw length of one of them apeman types 30" ?? He wanted a bow long enough so's he feels comfortable drawing it. We have a 68" 56#@30", I couldn't help myself tho I had to add some cocobolo tip overlays just to satisfy myself. At my short draw length the limbs ain't working too hard. Pay no attention to the fat old man in the picture  :D

Nice bow Dano, and I agree with Ionian, there is nothing plain there, just a beautiful piece of osage made to what osage does best......

Plain Jane? More like a beautiful woman, er, beautiful piece of woodworking. The cocobolo looks like it grew from the osage - that's some mighty fine joinery.

Plain 'ol beautiful! I love it that you just HAD to add the cocobolo tip overlays. Nice to know there are others that can't leave plain alone. Mike

"Plain Jane" is the name I gave to my old Savage 30-06 deer rifle. I have killed a lot of deer with her. I hope the same is said of your "Jane"
I would also add that your bow is a lot nicer than
my rifle.

Very graceful lines, elegant simplicity in materials choices....nothing plain about that. Beautiful bow as always Dano.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Dina, I clean up now and then  :bigsmyl:

Brent, the bow is 1 3/8" to mid limb tapering to 3/8" tips. I like 1 1/4" better but I overbuilt this one a tad for the longer draw and wieght.

Beautiful! Like always   :clapper:    :clapper:

What is the finish on the wood?

I love the reflexed tips, could we have a picture unbraced and of the back?

Always learning from Dano, thank you

Dano, that is a beautiful piece of sage there!
I would like to learn something here, two questions: how much shorter is that lower limb?
You went wider on the limbs for the extra draw length, but wouldn't the extra length be enough to allow for the extra draw?
Looks like another awesome tiller job!  :notworthy:  Terry

Terry, both limbs are the same length. I only went 1/8"wider, just a little extra insurance.

Doug, I'd just spoil the surprise for ya   :bigsmyl:   Sides you oughta get it tommorow or Staurday.

Thanks you all.
