A good friend of mine asked me to build him a bow he could take to the woods and not worry about dropping it out of the stand, hence the name "plain Jane". Did I mention the guy has the draw length of one of them apeman types 30" ?? He wanted a bow long enough so's he feels comfortable drawing it. We have a 68" 56#@30", I couldn't help myself tho I had to add some cocobolo tip overlays just to satisfy myself. At my short draw length the limbs ain't working too hard. Pay no attention to the fat old man in the picture :D

Nice bow Dano, and I agree with Ionian, there is nothing plain there, just a beautiful piece of osage made to what osage does best......
David

Nice work Dano.......Your friend is lucky to be getting one of your bows...BTW it's been a while since we had a Dano build along here at Tradgang.... (hint)..... :D Terry
-
PLAIN? That is a great lookin selfbow you got there. I've done quite a bit of huntin in the Vandalia area and I dont think the deer over there care what your bow looks like so your buddy should be good to go.(LOL)
-
You might call it plain, I call it a work of art! Very nice lines on that one.
-
You might call it plain but I see a work of art there. Very nice lines on that one!
-
That bow is perfect Dano.
-
"perfect" far from it, Thanks ya'll. Terry I like your build-a-longs better.
-
Osage built for a 30" draw is perfect for me. LOL
-
Plain Jane? More like a beautiful woman, er, beautiful piece of woodworking. The cocobolo looks like it grew from the osage - that's some mighty fine joinery.
-
I hear ya David :bigsmyl:
-
Dano, that's a very nice looking bow, and if you don't overwork the limbs it'll last forever. Beautiful my Friend. Ralph
-
Awesome Dano--if it doesn't ummm fit him or somethin ummm I've got a home for it--hint hint
-
Very nice work, Mr. Dano! :archer:
-
How much does it cost to be your friend Dano, wink wink, nudge nudge.
All kidding aside, that's really nice. Elegant.
-
Most of my friends are very highly paid Lonnie  :D
"pink elephants"

-
Very nice Dano!!
-
Dano, you got any more pictures of that bow you can post? How wide is that beautiful thing. That thing almost makes ashamed of board bows :notworthy:
-
Wow!! Very pretty bow Dano! Hey did you shave?
-
Wow, I'm impressed!! Lucky friend. How does it shoot? Smooth draw, etc?
-
Plain 'ol beautiful! I love it that you just HAD to add the cocobolo tip overlays. Nice to know there are others that can't leave plain alone. Mike
-
Those limbs are so long, it looks like Mickey shooting it.
-
"Plain Jane" is the name I gave to my old Savage 30-06 deer rifle. I have killed a lot of deer with her. I hope the same is said of your "Jane"
I would also add that your bow is a lot nicer than
my rifle.
-
Very graceful lines, elegant simplicity in materials choices....nothing plain about that. Beautiful bow as always Dano.
-
My draw is 29" so I'm a little short of the "Apemen".
Plain Jane Is Beautiful....
-
Great job like you always do Dano! I like them long ones too and I got short arms. :)
-
Great job Dan. The tiller looks right on!
Bill
-
very nice Dano !!!!
-
As always..Great work on the bow. It looks great.
-
Thanks for all the kind words.
Dina, I clean up now and then :bigsmyl:
Brent, the bow is 1 3/8" to mid limb tapering to 3/8" tips. I like 1 1/4" better but I overbuilt this one a tad for the longer draw and wieght.
-
Beautiful! Like always :clapper: :clapper:
What is the finish on the wood?
I love the reflexed tips, could we have a picture unbraced and of the back?
Always learning from Dano, thank you
F-Manny
-
Manny the finish is Thunderbird, the last few coats dusted on for a flat finish. Here's a few pictures for ya,

Thank you Dano this is fantastic work
-
Very nice as is expected when I see your work Dano! By the way, who is the short-armed, old fat guy you show pull'n that bow? He looks kinda familiar but I just can't place him :D
-
Happy New Year Rich, That's my not so good lookin twin brother :bigsmyl:
-
"Does this bow make me look fat?"
I bet that was the first question your buddy asked, right?
Killdeer~stickbows'll do that! :biglaugh:
-
I said yep it does :bigsmyl: What are friends for.
-
Dano, that is a beautiful piece of sage there!
I would like to learn something here, two questions: how much shorter is that lower limb?
You went wider on the limbs for the extra draw length, but wouldn't the extra length be enough to allow for the extra draw?
Looks like another awesome tiller job! :notworthy: Terry
-
good looking bow!!! ;)
-
Plain or not very nice
-
Beautiful bow. Nothing could add to a bow like that, except an arrow speeding through the air.
-
Nice bow!
Woody
-
What a piece of CRAP!!! :biglaugh:
Just kiddin' bud.....beautiful work, as always!! I here you got another one built as well.....any pictures??
-
Sweet, my kind of bow!
Dave in Ft. Collins, CO
-
Terry, both limbs are the same length. I only went 1/8"wider, just a little extra insurance.
Doug, I'd just spoil the surprise for ya :bigsmyl: Sides you oughta get it tommorow or Staurday.
Thanks you all.
-
Well deserved Doug, a great quality bow for a great person!
