I finally broke down and ordered a new Silvertip recurve a few weeks ago. Just looking for pictures to get some ideas of different wood combos. I'm particularly interested in dark riser/lighter limb combos, but anything is welcome!
I know I have seen some beauties here in the past, just can't seem to find them.
Thanks,
Allen
Hey Allen, Beth emailed me a ton of pics showing a gazillion wood combos. I bet if you tell her what you'd like to see, she'll send you pics of everything Dave has done that is along the lines of what you're interested in.
On mine, I'm still thinking Charcoal Dymondwood, with Curly Maple veneers.
Billy
I was just thinking of they Billy, thanks. Yep that Charcoal/Curly is a sweet combo!
Allen
Allen, put some Cocobolo in there somewhere!!! and antler limb bolts are required!, you also must allow me to shoot it when it comes. :readit:
Zane, I was wondering where you have been! As of now, I ordered Macassar Ebony riser with quilted maple limbs lightly stained to bring out the grain.
So many choices!
Not exactly what you are looking for but it is a Silvertip-Bocote riser and limbs.Whatever you decide on,you won't be dissapointed. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/WolverineMounts018.jpg)
That is wonderful.
JimB, tha's the problem....they are all so nice that it's hard to decide!!
Oh well I still have a few months to decide.

these bows are as good as it gets, :)
Yes, Beth e-mailed me a ton of combos as well. I have ordered a charcoal dymondwood riser with Shedua limbs, Elk Horn knobs and rough sheephorn tips. I also am having a scrimshaw inlay of a caribou in the riser. I still have about a 6 month wait!
Thanks guys!! Man Tater, that bow of your's is the cat's meow!! Tha's just the kind of combination I have in mind.
Here's a 'Tip w/ the Charcoal Dymondwood riser and Birdseye Maple limb veneers. Sweet as honey, but stupid me sold her! :knothead:

Ben,
That's my favourite picture of Paul and Bart.
To me their expressions and body language epitomised their mythical characters in this photo.
nice bow too.
Here's a couple of pics of my tip...macassar ebony riser with checkered grip, dyed curly maple limbs with antler nocks and brass antler td knobs.

All of the bows have a walnut riser...
Limbs are: russian olive, camo and the plain jains.
Hey Billy...check these Schafers out! :goldtooth:

Oh god stop tempting me.
Those are amazing looking bows.
Tim....do you just like to torment me or what?....I'd hate to see how you treated me if you weren't my friend ^8
Billy
I may need to just order one.
Can not find a used one in my specs for sale.
60" 55# or less @28" checkered grip takedown.
HINT HINT
They are all VERY nice!

Thanks again and again guys!
Hey Tim G, those Russian Olive limbs are to die for!
Don't worry Billy, your's will be here before you know it!!
how heavy are those risers?, they look big
The dymondwood risers have a substantial heft Ian. I for one like them because they are quite stable and the grip has to be felt to be appreciated. These aren't just works of art, they are hard working bows and are built to be substantial.
1/4 away, that schafer is a beauty. how do you like the 58" inch bow?
1/4 away, your's is almost identical to what I have ordered now. What a beauty!
Top one is 58" rosewood w/quilted maple limbs(my favorite),2nd is 60" walnut w/russian olive limbs,3rd is 58" rosewood w/tulipwood limbs and the 1 pc is 60" rosewood w/red elm(just sold that one)
Thanks guys for the compliments. It definitely has eye-appeal and is a great shooter. I bought it from a fellow tradganger early this year and it has a permanent home here with me and is my go to bow.
jeanpaul, while I usually like my bows 60" I've got to say that there is no discernable difference (at least to me)between this 58"er and the 60"ers I've shot.
Great looking bows, great shooters-great find!

No pic's of mine right now, but walnut riser with Advantage camo limbs. Not sure how many Dave made with the Advantage camo. Smooth and sweet!
Hey Tim Golder,
Are you calling that "Pagel" bow plain jane! I know you have taken a bunch of critters with it.
I have a new one now, walnut dymondwood riser with macassar ebony limbs, antler knobs and tips. Sweet!
Dave
Guys, stunning pics, every one of them!
I don't know Jim Picarelli, but any guy with four silvertips is o.k. in my book.
I had a chance to shoot a silvertip for a few days, and they shoot as good as they look.
santos rosewood with quilted maple limbs
sorry pic didn't work.
Hello Mr. Pagel....you sure do disappear during the season. Send me an email when you find time and let me know where you've been or where you might still be headed.
The "Pagel" bow is still flawless, not a scratch and yes it's filled the freezer several times over the years! As you can see I dressed her down a bit with plain knobs...I still have the antler knobs but for some reason they keep appearing on my sons bow.
Let me know if you get an itch to sell the new one, I wouldn't know how to act or shoot a bow that didn't have your name on it!
Take care and good to hear from you!
Tim
Here is Lila Lou, the Silvertip I ordered as a tribute to my Mom. This one is going nowhere!

charcoal riser w/ flatgrain zebrawood

Great looking tip guys! My new one won't be done until April and I can't decide between cocobola or rosewood dymonwood. Keep em coming!
Nice Dave....hold onto that one!
Jim....That's the first limb combination I've seen with a charcoal riser I really like. Pretty bow!
WOW would best explain every one of those bows.
Lets see if I can get some pics up without any help! The 2nd 'tip is a hickory riser with Zebra phenolic accent. limbs are zebra camo and hickory veneers respectively. Thanks Sergio, your bows are awesome, as all of them are!
Hey Sergio,
Are those just stickers on the limbs or did Dave make them like that for you?
James;
they are the real thing ,not decals. They are made the same way as his Camo limbs. I really like'm. heres a couple of pics of a one piece 'Tip i sold . (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x132/recurvehunter_2007/PICT0141.jpg) (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x132/recurvehunter_2007/PICT0138.jpg)
Thats purdy!!
There must be more for me to droooool over.
Very nice bows. I am still looking.
Maybe put my order in after getting wood choices from some of these.
TTT
Thanks for the bump Sergio. I think I have my wood choices picked out. Only problem is that I still have several months to change my mind!!
A.S.- if you are going to change you mind you might make it a righty so we all can try it out,LOL.
No way Tom! This is the one I've been avoiding ordering for several years. I finally figured that the 10 month wait isn't going to get here any quicker unless I actuall order one!
Not sure if this will work or not but tried to get the website for my photobucket page. Feel free to snoop around Own or have owned all bows on my page.http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x196/robhood23/
TTT for Jason
Bowwild Heres some pics from a past post hope it helps
they are fine looking bows, all. some of the best work out there I think. none better!
TTT, hunting from my from my front steps today waiting on the UPS truck. :readit:
When I buy another bow I'm pretty sure it will be a 1-piece. It will be a Tip or Rose Oak Ultra Delight Special edition.
I'm liking that Allen is ordering a lefty! I hope it has dark woods, is 60", and around 47#@26"!
Of course I'm hoping more that he is so happy with this bow that he keeps it forever!
Beth called me yesterday and mine should arrive any day NOW. Will post some pics up soon.
Roy, I started this thread a few years ago. I'm sure I changed my wood choices a couple times before it was built. I ended up with a beautiful Silvertip with Marblewood lams. I'm sure you have seen a pic or two of it before. :archer:
Yikes, I should have looked at the date.
Thanks for bringing me back to the present!
I did a double take when I first saw it this morning Roy. I first thought, "hey, I started a thread just like that once!" :dunno:
Allen, got your former bow in yesterday, shot it back to back with my Robertson. As I said previously, first Tip for me. Both shot near identical as far as feel/ cast/ quietness etc. I'll say, Tips sure are some nicely made bows. The finish work on the riser was really only rivaled by my Habu. Well, after a day of shooting, the Tip is however on its way to Louis Lucido. I decided to stick with my Robertson (haha even though I just listed it for sale!). The grip on the Robertson suits me better, and while the Tip was a beauty, the slimmer lines of the Robertson are more in line with my love of longbows. I'm glad I test drove the Tip. Now I understand the devoted (fanatical??! Hahaha) following. Honestly, if I had the drive, I wouldn't hesitate to order one new. Alas, I have once and for all realized I am a longbow lover. Hence the Robbie also going up for sale. Here's some pics comparing the Tip and the Robbie:

The Robertson doesn't really give up anything in finish to the Tip. They're just 'different', though like I said, shooting qualities very very similar. They were the same overall length but the Tip has 1" longer riser, Rob' has longer limbs. Also, the pad angles on the Tip riser are steeper. Tip has wider limbs. Overall the Fatalstyk is just a slimmer proportion. You couldn't go wrong choosing either!

Chuck, I was just thinking of sending you a PM to ask how you liked the 'Tip. That's a fine looking Robertson as well!
Here is the Silvertip I am hunting with right now...

Allen- I was glad to put my hands on it and give it some range time. I am an eternal bow test driver. Had I already sold my Habu I may have held on to it. I was already working a deal on a bow Louie had, he and I have done some business and have made pals and he knew I was getting the Tip and has a few himself, so we discussed him potentially taking it off my hands if I decided it wasn't love at first shot. So it ended up working out. Louie is a Tip fanboy and I gave one of his longbows a good home and got a little coin. If he decides to pass it on I have first dibs again. If I ever have a Tip built it will be with the charcoal riser like the one from you, love the coloring. Think Dave would build me one with longbow limbs??
Creekwood, what are the stats on that gem? Still waiting on the UPS man. I stayed outa the woods today for nothing but house work!
58" and 54@28 - Rosewood dymondwood riser w/ macassar ebony flare and slightly darkened zebrawood veneers
That's a beauty Creekwood!
Izzy, waiting for the UPS delivery man can be maddening. Been there, done that. :) Remember though, "good things are worth waiting for".
Yep, that 1-piece Tip is a beauty!
