I got lucky last night with a bad hit gut shot and caught an artery . Was aiming just behind leg and low . I try to burn the hole but i am also keeping an eye on head movment .How do you do both or don't you watch the head at all ? :help: :help:
Never watch the head. TABU! Especially when it has horns. Once I decide I'm shooting I burn the hole and don't stop until the arrow is gone.

Once I decide that it is an animal I want to shoot, I really focus in on the shoulder. (Keeps my eyes off the antlers!). Peripheral vision will catch any head movement if they happen to snap the head up or something. I will notice the head just before I draw, to make sure it is still not looking at me, but once I draw the bow, my whole focus is on the shoulder. I will also try to find something small, like a tuft of hair or a wrinkle in the skin to act as an aiming point.
Once I decide to shoot I focus where I want to hit and every thing else blacks out, most times I see a bright flash right where I want to hit if I am focusing hard enough. You have to train yourself to not look at anything except where you want your arrow to go.
It is a lot harder for me to focus on a 3d target than an animal and forget the targets with more than one shooting spot on them.

Draw a diagonal between the furthest end of the shoulder blade to the top joint of the upper front leg, find the mid point and drop back an inch, center of the aorta for most north American game animals. I shoot instinctively so it's only a couple of seconds between picking the shot focusing in and draw/release.

My son missed a big buck about 2 weeks ago, shot right between its horns. I told him, when you decide your going to shoot a deer only look at the spot you want to hit, pick out a hair in that spot and make sure you hit your anchor. A few days later he came home with a big smile on his face and his first trad kill. He double lunged it, went about 50 yds. and tipped over. Later he told me as the buck was coming in he kept saying, pick a spot pick a spot hit anchor...
Picking a spot can be kind of confusing, especially for the archers who've not connected on game. When I aim, I visualize my arrow entering the animal at the percise point for the best killing shot. It's like I can see it before I actually release the string. There is a certain "feel" to the shot that must happen. I've been doing it this way for a very long time and it works for me.

Yep, same here.
When I drew on my KS buck, I saw everything - like looking into a wide open field, and had to refocus on whatever spot it was I picked the arrow to go.
I don't remember if the deer stopped, if he looked up, away, down .... I don't remember anything he did once I regained my focus
Now that said, i think some people have better vision than others, allowing them to pick solitary hairs. I can't if its very far away, so instead I focus on lights/darks - and that pocket right behind the shoulder nearly always is darker, and the nook right in behind the darkest.
Probably sounds weird ....
