Title: 2 minutes that could change bowhunting forever
Post by: BUFF on November 15, 2008, 07:46:00 PM
I never dreamed it could be done by so few so easily
Please take two minutes to listen to how much Archery season means to Commissioner Parker Texas already has a 2 month gun season plus a youth weekend the last weekend of archery season

I think this is supposed to be in hunting issues and politics.

But I'm sorry it was a little fuzzy and my hearing isn't spectacular.

Are they talking about getting rid of the archery season and replacing it with a full month of youth only hunts?

If thats not what they said I misunderstood it.

i started a thread over on the other trad site with email and contact info to voice against this. much to your point youths already have nov 1 to jan 18 plus oct 25/26. I belive access(in tx at least) is a greater issue in youth participation than season lenght.

This is bad news, especially for those who hunt public lands.  I don't see the point in extending youth season, as the rifle season is pretty long as it is.  These kids are going to be out there with their parents anyway, hopefully, and the normal hunting season should be plenty.  I do think that it is a good idea to promote hunting in general with the youth, I don't think there is a need for youth only seasons.

Its sad when your hear someone, who is supposed to be able to make informed decision, call bowhunters a "specialty hunting group" as if there are only a few. What they, as an arm of the state government, don't seem to understand is that the loss of bowhunting as a separate season will result in the loss of bowhunters. This, in turn, will have an impact on outdoor retailers throughout the state. If they are worried about the future of hunting, why are they not worried about the future of the hunting stores. They have a similar proposal in North Carolina for next year for next year where gun, bow and black powder will all have the same season on private land, which is where the majority of hunting occurs. It just goes to show what kind of people we have running some of our game departments.
