Title: New Ground Blind...(pix)
Post by: Deadbolt on November 14, 2008, 05:45:00 PM
Went out in the woods with my girlfriend today and built a new ground blind.  Had a nice 6pt walk right in front of this blow down wensday but I was 30-40 yards away from it so I passed.  Went in today and brushed it in.

Im only concerned with the side portion when they come in but its that only window I am really open in but once they clear that numerous trees form a wall and they will never see me which will give me time to shift into my shooting stance.

Enjoy the pix and yes I will be wearing a face mask and glove while hunting hehe...

Front view with me in it...

You are way more concealed than I am in a ground blind I have been using now for three years and have shots at deer under 20 yards every year.  I have absolutely NO cover in front of me at all but have some good stuff behind me that evidently breaks up my outline perfectly.  I have had numbers of deer look right at me but never make me out. I think that we worry too much about cover in front and need to be more concerned about good cover behind us.  But it seems natural to want to hide behind something.  That often requires movement (standing, leaning out) to shoot. The lack of movement is more important than cover in my opinion.  You should do well in that set-up....Dave

Heya guys thanks for all the good words!

Davidl...I agree background cover is far more important than cover in front so your not silloutted (sp?) but in this case I didn't want to change to much of the existing cover smack dab in the middle of the season.  Next month I am going to add more brush behind it once the season is over and let them adjust.

I also added extra in the front b/c I will most luikely be hunting tandom out of this blind with my brother or buddy and we will want to film.  I like to have that extra cover from chest down to store extra stuff by us and let us get away with extra movement to get positioned...we could do it with no front cover but it is that much harder heh!

Once those leaves die and turn brown leave them that way. If the deer see brown leaves turn green next year they may stay away.

I prefer blowdowns for ground blinds when I can find them.

Yea this one worked out great...it made its own little pocket for me I just had to add a little brush and I was set.

Tommy...make sure you don't have to "raise up" to shoot. Clear a small opening so you can shoot from right where your sitting. Good luck pal...see ya in January....

Busted is what you are going to get as per your set up if you shoot over the top! Try setting up two or three holes to shoot thru and build a back ground behind you so you are not sky lined and also over you if possible so your bow doesn't hit the top limb. When you are within 15 yards of a deer it is a different ball game. You are attemping the greatest most thrilling way to take a deer with Trad. bows. Good luck to you and let us know if you get busted or get a shot!  Ken
