Title: PA guys & Gals this is it!
Post by: longbowman on November 14, 2008, 01:29:00 PM
The regular bowseasn is over tomorrow for PA people.  How many of you scored this year?  My son and I filled our doe tags and we've seen over 50 buck between us with only 6 shooters total!  (We're in the 4 points to one side area.)

I planned on giving it heck today and Saturday, but I'm down with the flu. Had a so-so year on state forest and state gamelands, and a great year on private lands. Missed a nice 6 pointer, got busted by a few doe. Didn't fill a tag in Pa this year but filled 2 in New York in 4 days of hunting.

Hunted 13-14th all day with only one deer (3" spike) sighted.  Its like they went underground.
Gonna wait for the rain to let up a little then head out all day again.

It only takes a second.

I've had a tough season. I had shots on 1 spike and 3 yearlings. I've seen 1 shooter buck a few times but have never been able to get a good shot on him.
I hope to get out today after lunch and give him one more try. If not, we'll break out the 45-70 in a few weeks.

No deer tagged here, but I saw quite a few this season. I saw 3 legals bucks which broke a 3 year drought of not seeing a legal shooter.

Bowmarks,  good job.  Some folks complain about having to walk at all.  I'm proud of your effort.

I have been hunting since the 6th on vacation. Hunting has been slow i have seen only 5 bucks and 8 does had a real nice 6 point and small 5 point 10 yards from my stand friday no rut activity to speak of moved back to feeding locations there was 3 does feeding 30 yards from these bucks. They paid no mind to each other. My best rut stands funnels doe bedding spots went dead no bucks chasing  or out looking tough week but that,s hunting.Lots of good buck sign they just not moving in my neck of the woods. TD.

I was not bowhunting today, but me and a buddy were out scouting for bear on SGL 82 in Somerset. We only seen one deer, but the sign was everywhere. Good luck after christmas!

Well, 3 strikes and you're out I guess.  I had 3 legal bucks, an 8 point last Saturday, a one horned 3 point on wednesday, and an absolutely beautiful 8 point tonite, all within 30 yards and never dropped the string.  I must be doing something wrong.  Seems like they are always coming out where I am not expecting them to, or on the wrong side of me so I have to turn to try to get a shot or something. I've had a blast, but I am a little frustrated tonight.

Next year I will save my vacation and take this whole week off.  I probably just need more chances.

I finished off my season Saturday, in the rain, just like I started it.  I had a parade of buck all morning and not a legal one in the bunch!  (4 pts. to an antler here).  When I was done Saturday I had my 32nd buck in to my stand for the season and had only seen 3 that were legal and none close enough for a shot.  I did fill my doe tag on a large bodied buck that had one antler freshly broken off and the ohter one was about an inch long.  Good season and yet a little frustrating.

Didn't hunt saturday but went out friday afternoon. I've seen TONS of does. After hunting all season on my friend's property I finally saw my first buck when I was leaving the stand. He was a 10-12" spike... a no-go for me since I don't have a doe tag.

Anyway, it's been fun, still probably going to go out when rifle starts since I'm hunting private property (still need to be careful because people poach his property a lot).

Yeah, Sarah, but now you're at least not wearing deer-colored carharts!

Good friend let me hunt w/ him up in N. Berks and saw a number of nice bucks... too far out trailing, but thrilling.

Between Centre and Berks hunting areas, I saw at least a dozen spikes from tiny to HUGE this year! Wow... Never been so covered up in good body size and good antler base size on spikes as this year!

Passed on buttons and short-nose does a few times... but other'n that..meatless!

Did all my hunting in NJ so far. Will hit the rifle season with my longbow at my Dad's place as usual.
