Title: GPS with Lithium Batteries !!!
Post by: NoCams on November 09, 2008, 07:38:00 PM
Just thought I would pass this along to everyone who uses a GPS in case you did not know ? I have been using my Garmin Map 60CSX now for two years on the same set of Lithium Energizer batteries and the battery gauge still shows FULL, WOW !!! Now I do not use my GPS a whole lot, but I do remember using regular AA batteries either Duracell or Energizers and they would not last at all. A few hunting trips and they were half dead. I think the Lithiums are well worth the $$$.

I use them in my camera and GPS.  Mainly because they work in low temps where other batteries fail.

I agree, well worth the extra $$ for any electronic device.

"NoCams" is correct.  I put a pair of AA Lithiums in my Garmin 60CSX before I went elk hunting last Sept and they're still showing full.  My compact Canon digital camera has another set in them with the same result.  Worth every penny.

When it's cold lithiums are the only route. At
-50 lithiums give me 8hrs in my Vista HCX regular duracells only 3hrs. Must be nice to go a year with same batteries in warm climates!

hunt it,
We hunted in ILL last year and had a few cold mornings and that was where we noticed that regular old Duracells would not hold up compared to the Lithiums. Granted it was not -50, but cold for us Southern Boys for sure.

NoCams,

I do some timber wolf hunting in the far north every year. On this hunt I spend 6 to 8 hrs a day on snowshoes tracking and pushing wolves. The gps is on all day and is used every 5 to 10 mins to relay my position to blockers. On a real cold day -55 or so I'll use up one set of lithiums and need the backup set for last hour or two of day. The unit hangs around my neck and is kept inside my coat most of time. When I'm on the shoes there is no shortage of body heat but cold still eats those batteries fast. Same goes for our radios, I'll use 12 AA a day in radio just to keep it going.
