I just re-entered the trad world and it's great to be back. I picked up a Martin Savannah that looks brand new. RH, 50@28, according to my scale it's 53# at my DL(28.75"). Perfect! The owner didn't have a string for it, though. What should I get and what length? I'm thinking a 3-Rivers Flemish FF at 59" long. Does that sound about right? Suggestions on brace height and arrows would be welcomed also. I have some GT Trad 3555s with 100 grain inserts that are full length(30"). I have some room to trim if necessary. Did I say it's great to be back?!
Welcome back :wavey:
Welcome back! AMO standard I believe will be three inches shorter than the bow. :campfire:
Welcome back :campfire:
Recommended brace height for a Savannah is 6&1/4" to 7",mine shoots great at 6&3/4".I made a padded loop D97 for mine and with some cat whiskers it is a smooth, fast and quiet shooter.
BGRAM will build you a great string. He's a sponsor. use him
Welcome back, it is a great place to be.
Thanks all. I can't get this smile off my face.
Happy shooting and hunting to you! Sorry I can't help with information on the overall string length you need.
I have a Savannah thats 65@28 ; I shoot GT's 55/75 with 250 up front cut to 29". Mine is very sensitive to brace ht. changes, make small adj. until the bow is quite(somewhere between 6 1/4-7)I mention this because you may think the bow is too loud when u first begin to tune, but even 1 twist on the string can take it from noisy to whisper quite..good luck.
I use the 3R FF 59" flemish string, set at a brace of 6 1/4" and rubber cat whiskers tied in at 11 3/4" from where the sting meets the limb. Quite and shoots great for me.
Thanks everyone. I've ordered the 59" Flemish FF string from 3Rivers. I also have the GT Trad 3555s with 100 grain brass inserts. They're full length(30") I'll trim one from the nock end until I get straight arrow flight or I reach my minimum length. I have a lot of different point weights to try. Thanks again!
