Can anyone tell me the difference between the hobbyist model and the proffesional model? There is a ton of difference in the price. Just curious. I know ther are others out there was just trying to compare these two to one another. I currrently own a ACE wall model. Thanks for replies. Flint

I have the Ace Spinemaster and it is right on with known spine aluminum shafts. WELL worth the money. Don't know what the differences are on the other. Hap

You have to manually reset the weight with each shaft with the hobby model. Just a bit slower than the pro. At least that's my understanding by looking at pics. Never saw one in person.....Van

Tom I, I like it alot. Mounts easily to the wall out of the way. Not taking up bench space. So far I have not had any problems with it. For the price it is the way to go as far as I am concerned. I guess it depends on how many arrows you build and what you desire. Flint

Here is what I don't understand: The hobbyist model jumped up 80 bucks in price OVERNIGHT. WHY??
I think they are all over priced when you consider that you can make your own in a couple hours for about 20 bucks in materials. I went that route and am completely happy with it.
However if I was going to buy one, I'd buy the Ace. Nice that it mounts to the wall and can be out of the way, best price too. But I'd still go the homemade route. Just my opinion.

So no one knows why that spine tester went up $80 in price? I understand inflation, but that's rediculous.

I am sure that the cost of materials had something to do with it from the manufacturer. According to 3Rivers, their cost went up, therefore their retail had to go up accordingly. They don't set their prices arbitrarily. If you really want a straight answer I would suggest calling Rothar. I know I called Rothar about the Professional tester a couple of years ago and he gave me an insane price if I wanted one. He said the cost of parts went up on just the few that he ordered per year and that is what he would have to sell one for it I only wanted ONE. I passed.
But again, if you want the real answer call the source. I am sure there is a reason that they raised their price. dino

You're probably right. Not sure if I want to call them though. I already have a home made job that I'm happy with. I was just curious because I get the traditional catalogs and this kind of price increase seems unheard of. With the exception of wood shafting of course.
But they probably have a good reason since they know they will likely loose a lot of their potential sales to the Ace wall mount job. I don't see that model lasting very long at that price.
