See Self bows and whitetails for the start of this story.
Last night ( while I was on the road home) Bob Ferri killed this big pig of a deer. He was hunting in howling winds, sleet and snow. a 12 yard shot from his ACS CX put the big boy down in less than 80 yards. It was a challenging hunt to says the least with over one week of 70 degree temps and howling winds to boot. Then the winds switched 180 degrees and blew from the other direction.
I had my chances as well but blew a 22 yard shot on a big 12 point.
Well we only have to wait three years to draw those tags again and you can bet your last dollar we will be there in November

Way to stay with it. Makes me cold looking at the picture and just sitting here in the warm house.

Congrats!!!

Got the phone call last night from Bob. He told me that with many layers on he was frozen cold at 4 PM and almost talked himself into getting down and calling it quits. Fortunately, he could not think of anyplace else to be that sounded better, so he stayed.
Persistence paid off! Last night of a 12 day hunt!
Way to hold out for the big one and good shooting Bob!

Just got this e-mail with photos from Dean (less the photo of my buck - already posted on the other thread):
Last night Bob Ferri shot this bruiser during the last hour of his hunt. I called Mike Stout to give us a hand recovering the beautiful 10 pointer which was sporting a cool character building forked drop tine. The perfect shot from 12 yards with traditional equipment left us little to track, it fell within 80 yards.
Congratulations to Bob for perseverance, crafty hunting skills and superb shot placement. It was a thrill to be a small part of the hunt.
I'm also attaching a picture of the fine buck taken a week earlier by Shawn Web. Jim Gilmer and Bob shared the hunting camp with Shawn. Three does were taken to help with herd management. Well done, gentlemen.

Wow thats a brute :bigsmyl:

Wow. What a great Buck. Congrats
-
Bluegill - interesting observation as he had a 1" overbite. Injury? - hard to say as I could not see any evidence. It did not appear to effect him as for his last meal he had chosen to crunch acorns and hickory nuts.
-
Super end to a long hunt..
Sure looks cold !
Congrats.
-
Birddogbob, I shot a buck in 2005 that had a overbite just like this buck...What causes that if anyone knows? That is a "NICE" buck...Congratulations...Keefers <")))><
