I heard all urine rather quicky turns to ammonia. With fake scents they often disturb deer.
I wasn't surprised I heard about people having some luck with diluted ammonia for mocks. But how much do you dilute it?
I think I'm going to try it for a few mocks, and add some deer poo from other areas to do the scent work.
Any thoughts, tips, ideas?
I know they need a licking branch, but I'm hesitant to buy licking branch scent for scaring them.

Never Diluted it so I don't know...I usually pour straight grocery store ammonia into a rinsed out 20oz soda bottle (LABELED CLEARLY with the product label removed) ...a little easlier to carry that a gallon jug :)
...then pour that directly into the scrape...
I've actually seen a buck break off from a hot doe and go over and stick his nose in the mock scrape....get a huge nostril full....pause for a few seconds (seemed like eternity) then go back to the doe (he was head-on so I had no shot)

oh. well that makes me feel better if nothing else. I was worried if I didn't dilute it enough it would send them running. Learned something already. Thanks. :)

I watched a young buck approach a scrape I had made with straight ammonia, and I saw him jerking his head back when he would get a snoot full.
Since that time I dilute it.

don't bother with all that. Just urinate in the scrape.

I've heard that but I don't buy it myself. Younger animals maybe, but an experienced buck has probably smelled fresh human pee by now. I'd use deer pee but I think they can smell something fishy about it too.

well i guess i'll have to now find the scrape of a dominate "big" buck and blow that thery out of the water too. trail cams don't lie 3 nights in a row. your crazy if you don't try it yourself as i believe you will really be suprised.

I have a buddy who put ammonia in a dripper bottle that he has on a fake scrape he makes. He says it sure over the years has worked. He has 6 fake scraps in use now...

well ken its honestly not that I don't believe you, I'm sure it does work.
I'm just worried about scent contamination. When I do stuff like that I put on a rain pancho and wrap my feet in contractor bags. Stay away from the trail and squirt with a squeegee bottle into the scrape and where I want. I just don't wanna be carrying around a windex bottle of my own pee. :)
Try explaining that one to whatever individual will invariably catch you walking to your car with a spray bottle of urine. Rather than try to explain such a thing to a non hunter I think I'd just tell them to keep their mouth shut or they're gettin a squirt next.
Thats why I like the idea of ammonia, its the pure chemical with nothing that might spook a wild one. It's not that I don't think human pee won't work I just don't wanna get that close and risk it.
