Anyone recieved anything from these guys since the spring edition? :confused:

nope, on their website they say that the summer issue is the responsibilty of Brian H. The Fall issue is the first issue that Tom C. is responsible for and should be shipping out very shortly. So i guess we may not get the summer issue, at least not for a while.

Maaaan! Thats no good!! I wonder if they are gonna credit our scripts with an issue. If not, I'm not sure i'll be able to renew under those practices.
Went to the site and used the email link to Brian and got a failure notice. The E-mail is no good. Looks like we are just gettin hosed on this one. :goldtooth:

No, I don't think anyone is going to get hosed. Brian and Tom Colstad just completed the final sale and knowing Tom the Bowyer's Journal will be better than ever. Give him a chance and I'm pretty sure you'll agree.

Stuff happens! - and making a magazine a profitable bussiness (wiythout losing your shirt) is a rough/tough road to hoe. Many (good ones even) fail, and don't get picked up by other hopefuls. One or two issues isn't going to matter in our lives, in the overall scheme of things. I'm sure Brian has done the best he can/could on the publications and on the sale agreements, and with the best of intentions. He is probably more hurt by the loss of any one issue (if it is indeed lost), and will be for a long time, than any of us can ever be. IHMO

Good luck to Tom - looking forward to the next issue, with or without credit for any missed issue.

I really hope the new ownership kicks it in gear and gets the magazine back on it's feet. I'd like to think it will. . .but.
I guess we wait and see if the issues will ever come and if they do if they are worth the price of admission. If this was a movie, everyone would have walked out by now.

Starting a magazine and making a go of it is tough. Not the first time I had a subscription to a magazine and the magazine "disapeared"...

Like many of us, I had enough faith in The Bowyers Journal and Brian to order a subscription before the magazine ever came out. I will be sticking with Brian and Tom and The Bowyers Journal until they tell me otherwise...and looking forward to the next issue to come out. I usually don't get any of my hunting/archery magazines until a few weeks after everyone else so I'm used to the wait. Pat

Hi everyone! I am the new owner of The Bowyer's Journal. I purchased the magazine business from Brian Halbleib in late August, at which time he said the Summer 2008 issue was at the printer and the Fall 2008 issue would be completed and sent to the printer in October. Subsequently, Brian said he had computer problems and the printer had problems with the Summer issue. I relayed that excuse to the dozens of emailers and callers who contacted me regarding the where-abouts of their Bowyer's Journals. In late October, Brian had the Fall 08 issue at the printer and it was printed this week. I know that to be the case because I'm paying for it to be printed/mailed. It should be mailed out late next week, according to the printer. The fate of Summer 2008 is still in Brian's hands. He can be reached at [email protected].
I'm hopeful that I can turn around the recent history and negative reputation of The Bowyer's Journal, as it represents wonderful ideals. I'm looking forward to serving its readership.

I nearly purchased the magazine - it was like when a deer only needs to take one more step into the shooting lane. I could not quite make a go of it with my age, skills, available time and finances.
This is a great publication, good information on the bowyers art and good traditional hunting and how-to stories. I plan to support it in any way I can. Including, being patient with this transition.
Best of luck with the new venture Tom and kudos Brian for your hard work to get this magazine started.

Well, there you have it from the horse's mouth. I think it is only fair to give Tom a chance to show you what he can do.
I know for a fact that Tom is deeply committed to making this work. He is the editor of the Wisconsin Traditional Archers "Stumpshooter" and since taking over that he has done an outstanding job with it to the point where I believe it is one of the top State traditional magazines I have seen. Tom's background is in newspapers, so he has the experience needed to back up his strong commitment.
I have absolutely no doubt that Tom will do everything in his power to give you the best magazine he can. If he can win over the subscribers and advertisers the Bowyers Journal will do nothing but get better and better in the future.
Give Tom a chance to put his mark on the magazine. I'm betting you will all be very pleased. When Brian first started out I, and I believe many others, supported his start up by subscribing for 3 years, and I think my subscription is coming up for renewal. I'm confident enough in Tom and hope to see him succeed as well, so I plan to renew for another 3 years.

I knew when I signed up that there would probably be some growing pains. Any startup business is going to go through some difficulty. I'm willing to stick with them. I think the end product will be worth the trouble.

The difference between a magazine that is a success and one that fails is the support of its readers during transition times, not very comfortable when times get tough and all you buddies bail out on you. This publication has a chance to really be great if we just stick with it through the tough times, I for one am still there with my advertising dollars to support what has the potential to be a great publication and encourage you to do the same, have a little patience and all will fall into place.
Imagine being on the other side , you just purchased a magazine and are trying to get it up and going ( trust me that's hard enough) then you have to deal with the likes of this. Come on guys show some support.

I see complications here. If I'm deluged with too many issues at one time I'll be spending too much time on the throne in the home library...

Thomas, I really appreciate your reply and clearing this up for me. I want nothing more than success for The Bowyer's Journal and everyone associated with a traditional archery business, as it is a true love affair for me. Hopefully one day I will meet you, Brian and some of the others on Tradgang to extend a hand of gratitude for what you bring to the sport. I cant wait for future issues and to renew my subscription. (Never said I was patient :p )

Hey guys i hope my first post didn't sound negative towards TBJ. i have been a subscriber since the beginning and have been fortunate enough to have a couple articles printed in it. i love the magazine and will stick with it as long as it takes. i was simply reapeating what was posted on their website. i hope others stick with the magazine as well, thanks,
