Hey Gang, I am looking for some assistance in planning a back country backpack hunt and am in need of some suggestions. Any help or ideas would be great. I am planning on doing this in the August or early September of 2009. Thanks Jason
Start tomorrow.
Head to the closest Jersey mountains ( :) ) with a loaded pack and start hiking. Getting in shape trumps any other plans you could make.
Getting in shape sure is the best advice to give! "Backcountry Bowhunting" by Cameron Hanes should give you a decent background on the topic. It's an exciting venture, both the planning and execution of an exciting hunt. It can be a very rewarding experience. Are you planning on heading out solo or with others? Matt

read articles on www.kifaru.net-lot (http://www.kifaru.net-lot) of good info, also articles/books by Cameron Hanes.
As it looks rite now I will most likely be solo unless a fellow trad ganger wants to partake. I will be driving out with a 10'X 6' enclosed trailer for my gear and then parking and taking to foot. Probably I will carry enough food and related equipment for 2 to 3 day intervals and if needed return to the vehicle for resupply. I figured that if I am successful I will have the trailer for the trans port of meat and horns.
I second Cameron Hanes' book.Make sure you make some, at least, overnight trips beforehand and use every new piece of backpacking/cooking equipment before your trip.
I'd be glad to share info on an area near Pagosa Springs. Sent you an email. Albert
