Title: Deer Movement in the Rut??
Post by: TradPaul on November 02, 2008, 09:47:00 AM
Trying to figure out the time of day these Bucks are traveling for the next two weeks. So i decided to call on the experts who know in our cyber camp.
In your experience what has the time of day been for big buck movement during the Rut? and where. And if anyones lives in NC I would love to hear your experiences as it is my back yard too. I have been trying to Re-sight the monster 12 point that lives in my hunting area, I know the travel but I dont know the time he's moving and searching. Heck I have barely seen any deer at all in the last 3 weeks, where as before they were practically everywhere. Help!!! I'm new, and need some advice. Thanks Again ya'll. Happy hunting.

stay in the stand as long as possible during the rutt, I like the morning before the hunting pressure and the gun blast screws everything up around here. after the first couple of days I try to hunt all day long the bucks stay on the move around here.

TradPaul...that buck is going to be unpredictable when the rut starts...once the rut kicks in and the does are being bred he'll probably hole up with a honey for a day or two at a time and continually breed her.... I would say keep hunting the does and they will bring mr big to you.... Much easier before the rut and early prerut to pattern the bucks..once the rut is in full swing those biggies are going to be near any hot does...

Spend as much time as you can in the woods cause it will be good all day long. I am leaving this evening for northern missouri and I will try to sit all day.

I'm headed for Nebraska next week. I will sit all day. When I was there two years ago, I saw bucks moving every hour. It pays to have patience!

There is no "best time of day" when bucks are chasing does.  Except, from dawn til dusk.

If you are after a certain monster, go to where the does bed, and set up downwind of their bedding area. Bucks will "troll" downwind of such areas checking for hot does. Ridgelines, natural funnels make it even a better bet.
Like stated above, try to stay on stand as long as possible. I have yet to make it through an entire day. I always end up still hunting or walking around to stretch and then moving to another stand.

Paul, I saw a nice buck yesterday at 11:50 am. Middle of the day and crossing the highway a mile from my front door. My neighbor shot a hoss 8 pointer last tue at 6:39 pm in his front yard. My son had a buck run into the side of his car on the way home from work thur night late. I'd say they are on the move most of the time around here. the key is to be in the right place at the right time. Good luck. Don

Don, thanks man. I shot my 7point at about 6:50pm but that wasnt the rut, and the 12 point i saw was at 2pm so I think sitting all day is going to be the answer, i just hope i choose the right day to sit  :biglaugh:  Anyway, thanks Don, sounds like the hunt at your place was a blast.
