Yesterday I shot a doe at 8 yards,I was 25 ft up in my climbing stand,I thought I made a perfect shot both lungs, the deer went about 20yrds and fell dead .Note this all happen in just 5 min from setting in my stand.the weird thing is when I climb down and walked over to the deer,I had hit it 2" below the spine behind the shoulder and still got a double lung shot.my thinking is what if I would of hit it in the center behind the shoulder I would of missed both lungs maybe. What do ya think.Something to think about when hunting that high ,and shooting 10yrds or less. Thanks and God Bless!!!!Joey
Congrats on the deer! :clapper:
You always have to play the angles game, esp at the heigth you're sitting. Visualize how the arrow will pass through the vitals and pick your spot based on the exit point.
Had you hit center of body at that angle you prob would have gotten one lung but I doubt both, you made a good shot.
I like the old 3-D targets that were scored on a paper insert in the middle of the target. If you didn't play the angle on those you would never hit the vitals.
The lungs are right up to and extend slighty higher than the spine on either side. If you are too far back, yes you can miss the lungs.
25 up is a long way for an 8 yd shot. It is almost straight down. Thats why most of us won't go more then 10-15 ft. It keeps the angles managable.
Good Shot!!
