Just had a bison steak Sunday night. Some kinda good. Those are big animals. Be sure you take a big cooler. Our fearless leader Terry Green got a nice one a couple of years ago. Good luck and "Keep'um Sharp".

Here is a picture of the Bison I killed/harvested with my selfbow (Max) last winter, let me emphasize, this was a harvest, not a hunt.  My hunting partner, Lenny Brown, both love bison meat so we split one bison each year.

The buffalo on the rez are supposed to be basically free range. They are on 10,000 acres that are only fenced with 4 strands of barded wire. If you know Bison that fence will not keep them in if they want to go. They only allow one hunter on the ranch at a time so that the Bison do not get pushed and run off of the ranch. I can't wait! I looks to be cold up there so that might be the only draw back, winter traveling conditions.

I will be shooting a J.K. Traditions "Kanati, 57 @ 28 (61 @ my Draw), Compressed, taper cedars with Wenge and Purple heart footings, tipped with Wensel Woodsmans.

WOW Walt that is one beautiful bison.

Here's a Wensel Woodsman harvest Bison Kill...been eating on him for over 2 years.  He's fed over a hundred hunters in camps and and wild game dinners.  Estimated at over 2000 pounds by the processor. Hope to get another one next year for the freezer as well.

Is there anywhere other than Utah and Alaska that has truely free ranging/wild bison that are huntable?

British Columbia as well!

Arizona has a herd as well. Your chances of drawing those tags(Az.,Ut.,Ak.) are very low.  They also are pretty pricey for non res. hunters.
The Pink Mountain ranch/reservation has a free ranging herd, but that is an expensive hunt.

It looks as if Terry is showing reverence/respect to the animal in the first photo. Gotta love that with such a noble beast. Last photo of the animal on the pedestal, balancing act! That stand must be freaking heavy itself.

You have to go to Pink Mountain in Northern BC, or Utah, or Arizona to hunt free range bison. I went to BC last year, it was extremely cold, -25 daytime. Had a blast but didn't harvest 1. They were as spooky as whitetail and were up in the mountains - go figure, they were plains bison!

Custer State Park is high fenced, though still very large.  Saw some huge bison bulls there one winter, plus lots of sheep, elk, deer, and coyotes.  A great place for viewing wildlife!  I really enjoyed the article in TBM about the guy who got one in the Henry's in Utah.  Don't hear much about hunting them in BC, anyone ever get one with a bow there?

Elksong, good luck and be safe!  Sorry for hijacking your tread.  Let us know how it goes!

Be careful Jason!  It is still alive! It might look dead, but according to my neighbor the compound fanatic it can't be dead because your bow can't kill it.  It will jump and gore you any time now.

Sorry guy's, I know I promised a story, and still plan on telling it.  When I got back from the hunt I was told that one of my youngest daughter's best friends was in an accident on her ATV.  She has been in ICU since Sun. and is not doing well. Was not wearing a helmet and has extensive brain trama.  My little girl is so tore up that I just have not been inspired to write much, and I want to tell the story well. I will tell it when I can. Thanks.

Unfortunantly, a beautiful and amazing young lady has passed.  I am heart broken as she was really an insperation to everyone that knew her and the loss to my daughter is beyond anything I can imagine. I have started to type the story of the hunt a few times and have just been too distracted with all that has been happening.  I know that Emily's spirt will live on and she will continue to inspire and change lives for the better even in death......That is what angel's do.

I am sorry this went from a Bison hunting story to a sad story of a young life lost.

I am so sorry to hear of the young girls tragedy. It just makes me sick when I hear of these kinds of things...so young a life ahead of them and then in a blink......

Sorry doesn't cut it but I am

Prayers for the family, and for your daughter.

I know what she's going through, I lost my best friend right after high school, and he was like the brother I never had.  Worst day of my life still the day I found out he was no longer with us.

Tell her in time, she will be thankfull for the time she had with her.  And that one day she will smile when she thinks of her instead of being sad....and be greatfull to the Lord for allowing her to be her friend.

My friend has been gone for over 25 years now, and I still enjoy and appreciate his friendship to this day.  He's still the best friend I've got.

Thanks guy's.  Emily was a super kid and I guess you never realize how much someone means to you until they are gone.

She had only a few months ago recieved her drivers license and decided to be an organ donor, We found out today that a little boy that was very much in need of one, recieved her heart. My daughter was very touched by this and seemed to find some kind of comfort in it. Services are Fri. that will be a long day.....
