I have owned a lot of custom longbows over the last few years. I was really suprised that a bow right off the shelf could shoot as good as this one did. Anybody else ever shot one? I am thinking on getting rid of some of my custom bows and getting one of these.
I had the same thought when I shot one at a shop last year. Very shocked. It was very enjoyable to shoot.
I would like to get some opinions myself.I have a savannah on the way myself. thanks..recurve1
I have one and shoot it better than all the other bows I have tried since taking up trad archery.
Some of the other boards have been less accepting of an opinion that gives the Savannah good marks, as it is not a "custom bow". You will find many many good things said about them-others will disagree and tell you they are not very good. I do find it interesting that the people that slam them are mostly expensive custom bow owners with pretty ungracious opinions.
I was able to purchase mine for a very good price. It had been bought but never had an arrow over the rest. As you have already shot one and like it, I would keep my eyes open.

Martin makes some fine bows.
I like mine, 42# @28. I think it's a good starter bow. I'm not sold on it until I test drive a Mohawk. I'm not a big fan of the high wrist grip. I think Martin would custom order me a 55 pounder with more of a low wrist grip. Tryin' for 6A in Arizona. Monsters up there. 7% chance of getting a tag, common baby. Dang, maybe next year.
I have and shoot a Savannah,it is a fine bow.Smooth and fast, handles a wide variety of arrows.I like the grip alot better then my Vision,I just never really cared for a recurve type grip like on the Vision.I like the Savannah more then my other Martins I've had.I bought mine when they first came out, have had no problems with it.A great shooter in my opinion.
Mine shoots as well as, if not better than some of the $1000 bows I've tried.
I own one and it's served me well. Purchased it about five years ago. It's an excellent bow and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
All I'm shooting right now...it is what I learned on. I have a Kota Kill-um that I love and another on order.
I will hopefully put a notch in it this weekend.

thanks for info guys.im looking forward to getting mine.
I've owned two, and they are wonderful bows.
Does anyone know if the bubinga riser will darken over time? All of the new ones I have seen are light but some of the ones I have seen posted on here are much darker. I like the darker color.
I currently own a Savannah, and have owned several in the past. For my money, I'd compare them with most customs on the market. All I have shot draw so smoothly that it feels like a 5# lighter bow.
I have only read one negative comment, and that was from a guy in Australia, who must have gotten a bad one.
Bottom line is, you can't go wrong with a Savannah, IMO.
I had one for a year and loved it. I took a whitetail with it and shot about a thousand stumps 8^). I think they are as good as "most" customs out there, and certainly shouldn't be called "entry-level." By the way....the Savannah is not a high wrist bow unless it was a special order model.
What brace height does the bow like? I found a 50lber I am thinking about trading for it. At my draw length it would be about 53lbs.
I have shot the Savannah, little short on the brace height. And you have to purchase them at set poundage.
For about the same money you can have a
Whisperstik or a voodoostik they started at $475.
And DJ makes them the poundage you want they are a quiet, smooth, and very accurate bow, custom made by DJ. of Whisperstikbows.com

I Shoot a martin vision and it is very sweet. great pointability and smoothness with the vision or the savannah.
I shot one and was extremely impressed. In fact, I shot a couple BW's,a Shrew, and several customs and honestly I liked the feel of the Savannah the best. I won a custom longbow a few months back but if I was going to buy a bow it would be a savnnah.
Always liked the looks & feel of the grip, but drew 2 back last weekend @ Cabela's & was not satisfied w/the smoothness of draw, my customs w/Bamboo were much smoother, as to be expected, but they are a nice "Lookin" bow,, Good Luck...
Slayer,
I shoot my Savannah right at 7" and it seems to shoot well at that height. It was a little more noisy than I liked until I put a B-50 string on it.
RonP
I shoot mine at 7 3/8", and second the dacron string.
George you are right. This is no entry level bow. What I meant was a great value. Good enough so that you won't need anything better. Like the 700 remington, 870 wingmaster, shimano symmetre, abu garcia baitcaster. I started with the savannah and I like it. But I don't love it. What kind of grip would you say the savannah has?
The one I shot was at Cabela's and they must have the brace Height set up a wrong, because it was really short, and slapped your arm.
That got them priced at $469. Maybe that's high for our area.
A scattershot, I bought my first traditional bow off this site from you. And I was looking at a Savannah back then. All I had was 50 Pounders. Otherwise I probably would await with that at that time.

Lt. Dan, the grip is what I would call low/med locator. A high wrist forces your hand to settle into the grip at the web between your thumb and fore finger and keeps the wrist from bending much. A high wrist on a recurve would look like this #3 Bear grip:
