Title: Wood Arrow GPI
Post by: WackemStackem on October 27, 2008, 03:31:00 PM
Help me out.. please

What is the GPI on the different Wood arrows.  I did some in cedar but my weights varied.  Most were total weight of 580 w/ broadhead but a couple were 520ish.  All cut same length and broadhead.

There is no answer to that question. Wood density varies to greatly.

You have to buy shafts that are spined and weight within in what you are looking for in weight\\spine. You may go through a 100 or more(most likely many more) shafts coming up with a dz that are within 5 lbs and 10 grains of one another.

okay.. was my first stab at it and I was unsure.  I guess I expected 10+/- but not 60 gr.

The coefficient of variation for wood density (weight) is in the neighborhood of 40%. In 100 shafts, you should be able to get several matched dozens if they are in the same spine range, but the weights of the matched dozens will vary considerably.

Buy them weight and spine matched and they will be within 10 gr and 5# of spine or less.

Talk to Ted at Raptor Archery.  I've received the best matched wood shafts I've ever purchased from him.

You will pay for what you get with wood shafts.

When it comes to buy woodies (shafts or arrows) Raptor Archery is hard to beat.
