what a morning! got in to my climber and was up the tree by 5:50, stars still bright. well first thing is i should have test run the stand as it was NOISY to say the least, i had climbed the tree before but did not sit, adjust things or stay long. anyways i got situated, hung my beaver quiver on the tree with a bunjee, DOOH, pulled a Homer Simpson and watched as bunjee fell to the ground! :knothead: these things irritate me! :knothead: she carried on for what seemed like forever and then walked off with her son. WOW, hearts pumping like Mike Tyson at a beauty pagent! about 30 minutes after this debacle i hear movement behind me, i turn to see another doe take a trail that leads directly under another stand of mine, also same trail the coyote came from. around 10 i see a deer coming from my lefdt, a nice doe all alone. she gets to with in 30 yards but no closer and wanders off. ujust a little later i hear brush busting and leaves crunching in fron of me. i get ready, shurly this is a brusier buck! out pops 2 golden retrievers, DOOOHH!!! i wait untill they are out of sight and got down to move stands. got a big platform API in this tree now. going to give it a fews days off and be back for round 2!! :bigsmyl:
I've had those morning's before. But it sounds like you had a very entertaining morning.
Good luck!
wouldn't change it for the world, this is why i hunt, oh what a thrill! i don't even have the slightest twinge of a cold, just couldn't hold back that cough! absolutly loved every minute of this hunt.
Sounds like you had a interesting morning, my vacation starts tomorrow, I'll get to hunt 3 weeks straight. Life is good.
Ken, next time just wear your big red nose and size 25 clown shoes. That way you'll just feel at home with the antics! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Wannabe,
hope we get to hunt together someday, i think we have a lot in common, as i said before you would fit in well with the NY crew!
Peachey,
i am on 3 weeks vacation too!
sounds like a good hunt right there. sometimes those entertaining ones are all that keep me from leaving the woods on a slow mournig lol.
-cory
good story. You know, sometimes things go sweet, and sometimes, well....
But you are gonna remember this episode forever too, and get to tell it again and again.
Sounds like you had a good day.
ChuckC
Sounds like you had a "Good Day" My Brother!!!!!
Wait till you hear how MY day went LOL!!!!! I'm gettin' ready to go to work.....Look for the story in the morning!!!!! :scared: ;)
awwww ya can't do that to me brother!!!!!! did ya spill blood?
No.....LUCKLY none of mine either LOL....
yikes, ya were in the dam new tree stand weren't ya!!!!! come on out with it!!!
Ken
Sounds like your having fun; and that is the most important thing !
I have had the cough thing happen to me- and sometimes I think its because when I see a deer coming and slow my breath; or start breathing through my nose - which somehow leads to a cough.
All part of the fun :) More to come !!
:campfire: :archer:
Brian,
i really couldn't believe i did that. i had the yote dead to rights and was thinking about a warm, fur hat! :readit:
Ken, wear the hat...try the meat...just don't go yelping at the moon. You'll never get the deer to come in range then! :bigsmyl: 'Course, if you was a bad singer to begin with, yelping might be more soothing to the ears! :biglaugh:
Keep having fun out there and stay safe. Someday I might just take you up on that offer. The National Guard has some schools and conferences that happen in NY from time to time. Might sign myself up for one.
i had a great hat from a yote that i called in and killed with a rifle. a good friends little daughter took a look at it and loved it, couldn't resist, had to giveit to her!

Great gesture! Hits me in the ole soft spot. Hope you are able to connect on another one with a good pelt. Did you make the hat yourself?
nope, i sent it to Arnold fur's and they made it for me, pretty resonable prices. i REALLY want another one and a longbow kill would be awesome. i'm sure i could get one with the smoke pole but i might hold out and wait to see if i can connect with longbow.
Awesome morning Ken, love that hat. Sounds like your all over'em. All that is doing is buildin up your Karma for the Big'un!!! :campfire:
"hearts pumping like Mike Tyson at a beauty pagent!" - Now that's funny right there! Great story Ken.
Ken, antics aside, sounds like a decent day any way. I've had those days too.
Ken : Sounds like a good day in the woods Brother :0)
If there's action it's a good day, your due to have it come together.
You drug a lot of smiles home from THAT stand! Sounds like a keeper of a day, Ken. I get those coughs here and there...happened this evening. Got half a drop of spit sitting on the cusp of trachea and esophagus. Lungs got paranoid and set up one whale of a defense. Must have coughed for almost a minute, not resolving anything and making tears roll down my face.
Didn't EVEN see a deer, though.
Hope you are enjoying your time off. Muscles getting flabby, pants shrinking, boredom 'bout ta drive you up a tree. Thank goodness I have something to do with my days! :archer:
yup Killy, still smiling thinking about it! you were there with me too.
:bigsmyl: :wavey:
Ya know, I had me one of them there hats but couldn't see a danged thing. Told everyone it was giving me a crappy outlook on life! Then someone lifted the tail so's I could see, and explained that I had it on all wrong. :goldtooth:
yer killing me man! :scared: :bigsmyl:
LOL Ken - you need your daughter to take the picture next time - it looks like a booking photo :p
The hat is cool; you look like your kinda of less than excited.. :saywhat:
I think you need to come out and kill an elk or sumpthin. :campfire: :archer:
Nah, there was just this shriveled up lump. I think he was castrated. You know, that thing that happens after you get married?! :biglaugh:
i'm planning on Elk in 2010 with Adirondackman and a couple others. Duaghter? holy cow man police told me i would be arrested on the spot if i breed!!!!!! just me, my wife and 2 dogs who think they are people.
Sounds like fun.....I've had days like that as well. You just gotta laugh!!!!!!! :biglaugh:
looks like round 2 tomorrow!
Sounds like you rolled up all my experiences this season into one compact morning :knothead:
Isn't it GREAT
sounds like ya had fun bro!! :biglaugh: i wish i had seen it unfold.anyday in the bush is a good day.
Hate that cough, but still a good day in the woods.Like that hat also, wannabe needs to show us a picture of him wearing his.LOL
Dang Ken!!!!!!! It sounds like you're reliving some of my past experiences. I hope you do better than I ever did. :biglaugh:
LOL - if ya can make noise getting in a stand I'll do it. One time I rattle my bow all the way up the latter. I thought there goes the morning. In about five minutes a young buck cane in top see you was fighting and making all the nosie :)
rusty
Good story Ken,,, sounds like some of my hunts. It is the only times in life when you can be frustrated, but yet still be having fun. Emotional roller coaster rides in the wilds of NY! Bet you could charge for that kinda fun!!
I always wonder what animals are in the woods just watching me through all that, wondering what the heck I am doing, then warning alll their friends, no wonder I never see anything :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the laughs, makes for some good memories!!!
hey i think you had a great hunt.but what a good story.now i know that it can happen to anyone. YEA! :jumper:
it was a great hunt, i laughed, :scared: and walked away smiling! :bigsmyl:
Great story Ken, I'm still laughing.
fool me once shame on you, wool me twice shame on me!! this is the secound day in a row a deer has snuck in exactly behind me! right around 8:00 i here leaves crucnhing directly behing me and its CLOSE! i turn my head to see a BIG 4 point about 20 yards behind me. very large body and nice white antler. the squrriels had been waging war all around me and i guess he slipped in during a furious game of tree rat tag. he has got me pinned asi can not shot behing me due to the tree, i must wait for him to pass or go to the side all the while i am still sitting and need to stand. i wait untill he goes behind my tree and try to quietly satnd. NOPE stupid move their, he instantly froze. i try ti ready myself for a shot and this makes him turn tail and get the hell out of Dodge! all i can do is watch him walk off. i knew i should have sstayed seated untill he passed, i also should have been standind as this is the THRID time deer have come in around 8am. i should know better, you will not have to hit my side the head with a cinder block next time!! i have moved my stand 35 yards down the trail where deer have come from 3 times in a row now. you can also bet sweet Aunt Bettys bottom that i will be standing from 6:30-9am next time in that stand!
After i got down i back traced where the buck had come from and found a scarpe he had just made, i problem heard him doing it butpassed it off as squrriels. you could smell the urine no problem! my stand is on that trail about 25 yards from the scrape. i have another stand with in view of this stand and hope to put Bow Spirit in it soon. ya live and you learn i guess and i am enjoying it all. you just can't beat this game of cat and mouse!!!!!
Go Git'em Brother!!!!!
(and git yerself a 5 gallon bucket, and practice shooting sitting down!!!!!)
Ken -that 4 pointer didn't happen to walk by where I was sitting?
John,
the scrape is 20 yards from where you sat bro!!! :banghead:
I had a feeling that I should have taken the day off and went hunting with you. Its only a matter of time before you get a good shot there. Good Luck the rest of the week.
Chuck,
i am auctually thinking about returing to the groun in certail situations and this might be one of them. i have a GREAT person to learn from with John as he knows his bussiness on the ground. he had set up the day before with in spitting distance of where the buck came through and made the scrape.
looking like round 3 in the morning with a little fresh snow to learn a bit more of the area. got my stand in a new position and i am looking really forward to hunting!!!!!
