where do you bear hunt whats the cost and whats the success rate.been to a place in maine a few times had a great time success rate is low and keeps getting lower went to canada saw a lot of bears but they went up on price to 3000 plus tags we a looking to go in spring of 2010 thanks.

I've done a fair number of bear hunts, and the best one I have been on by far was with Tom Phillips at Bear Quest II. Get on that list if you can - you won't regret it! Great hunting, very high success rates, and a chance to spend a week with a bunch of other Trad Ganger's!

Hello Jerry- I'll second Whip on Bear Quest. I'm going back for the next one cause last June's hunt was so much fun. Tom's a great coordinator, there are lots of bears, and for the time being it is a very good value. I'm only over in Burkesville and would love to tell you more about the trip if you're interested. Just drop me a private mail and we'll get together and shoot a little and swap tales. I have been on 8 bear hunts, which includes one night hunting in Arkansas. I have been to Quebec, Manitoba, Saskachewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, MN, MN, and AR. AR was a self hunt and we went 50% my wife killed a bear on 10/3 this year. Of the other hunts I plan to return to only one camp in Manitoba, they had the best operation and we saw the most bears. With that said it was also the most expensive. The whole trip cost me just at $3,000. If you want info just send me a PM.

I like the Que'bec area also.Not huge bears but plenty of them.Great operation as well...bowdoc

I've only been on one bear hunt. We went to New Brunswick and out of 10 guys in camp we killed 8 bears. Of the two hunters that didn't fill their tags, 1 missed a couple times and the other was waiting on a color phase (we were told it was very rare where we were hunting) or a giant as he had taken numerous bears.
The cost of the hunt was $900 plus food and travel. We could've booked a hunt with meals included for $1200, but figured we could eat like kings for $300 apiece. We ended up taking lots of venison, pasta and rice. We spent our mornings running the baits on 4 wheelers and evenings in stand.
I had a great time, but once was enough for me. I got other species to go after first...Mike

This will be my fourth year in a row going with Tommy's crew and Bear Quest III and as long as prices stay reasonable I hope to go every year God willing! Each year seems to get even better than the year before and when you are leaving you can't imagine a better hunt! I've met some true friends on these trips-Tradgangers all of 'em! :thumbsup:

we got bears everywhere,in the mountains-on the coast-in the swamp-in the sage.just #1150 for me to hunt them-thats $11 dollars and 50 cents.for you it would be $76.50 for a license and #151.50 for a tag.

Theres still good bear hunting in Maine if you get into the Allagash region.My friends took a 565lber this year.Not many like that but a few still.And quite a few high 300s outa that camp this year.$1250.00 without meals.

I went my first bear hunt in Ontario this August. I got skunked (didn't even see a bear), but it was no fault of the guide. Everyone else saw a few different bears and 4 out of 6 guys shot bears. Three with compounds and one with a gun. It was a great week long remote camp hunt with everything provided, including tents, cots, portable shower, boxes of snacks and beverages, and meals for $1,700. The dinners each night were better than most restaurants. We were his guinea pigs on the remote hunt, so next year he said he is planning on lowering his rate to $1,500 for a week after he figured out what it all cost. The camp is right on a lake and he provided canoes for fishing. There are also miles of backcountry roads to drive 4-wheelers. We plan to go back in 2010.
I thought I had gotten lucky when I drew a stand that the guide had trail cam pics of 4 different bears including a 400 lber, but it just wasn't meant to be. I ended up sitting at three different bait sites, but I think as the week wore on the berries really ripened up. The weights of the other bears were 250, 200, 350, and 130.
He said we could come up a few weeks before the hunt if we wanted to, so we did. We helped him bait and set up a couple of new sets. He fed us for the weekend and we stayed at his lodge all for free on that trip.
The guide is an all around good guy who does everything himself. He has rights to 800,000 acres in his bear management units (no other legal guides can hunt that land). He baits 32 sets with as close a shot as you want. He only guides a maximum of 18 hunters per year. He basically just does it as a hobby and uses all of his vacation time on it. I think he has an over 90% success rate including many who had never hunting anything before. Send me a PM if you would like his contact information.
