Title: Good Bow for a new shooter

I was wondering what brand Long Bow to get as a new shooter.  

I have not shot much before, but I'm interesting in trying it out a while.  Hopefully i'll enjoy it and then i'll move on to a really nice bow, but in the meantime, i was curious about getting a cost-effective bow.

All suggestions are very welcome.

I was in the shame bowa as you were persay, new to trad ,and succ,Due to a shortage of money I went with a Manchester solo Blacc long bow from fsarcherydiscount. LESS than $160.00 to my door .Beautiful bow 68" 45#@ 28" OF draw.you need to measure your draw length and purchase arrows to fit you .PRACTICE PRACTICE and do it somemore .there are not enought words to say how much you need to practice. What draw weight is considered on the light side.  I am a big guy, 6 foot 3 inches and i have long arms.

I'll look around and see what I can find from Manchester.

You'll gain three pounds an inch on average for each inch over 28" that you draw. SO purchase accordingly. Being a big guy doesn't mean that your archery muscles are developed. 45# at your draw is about the max I recommend for learning. You want to be able to shoot for a while without getting tired, sore and sloppy.

I'm looking in the 100-300 range.  300 is the highest i'd be willing to go at this moment.

Post an ad in the classifieds saying what you are looking for and your budget. For starting, go with a longer length bow and light weight draw. See what comes your way. Lots of folks here sell some great bows cheap to help a guy get started. Have any questions on a particular bow just ask. Just remember to pay it forward.

You can try Sipsey River also.  They are a sponsor and often have a wide variety of used bows in your price range.
