If you could suggest 1 book for a "Rookie" Traditional Archer to read,What would it be?

How about more than one?

Hunting with the Bow and Arrow by Saxton Pope (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/8084)
Download the HTML version in a zip file for free.

I Remember Papa Bear by Dick Lattimer (http://books.google.com/books?id=Q-0Nz181RLkC&printsec=frontcover&dq=fred+bear)
This is only a preview of the book but there are enough full chapters to get you started.

Robin Hood (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/832)
Another free download.  I cannot leave out Robin Hood.

Traditional Bowhunter's handbook for a start then go  to the online shops like The Nocking Point, Raptor Archery, 3rivers, etc...and start picking...

The Witchery of Archery
Bows on the Little Delta
Come November
and the list goes on and on...

I think the first book, TBH, above gives you a good starting point though on over all trad archery but this is JMHO.

I agree with others that Bows on the Little Delta is a must read. Excellent book. But the Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by TJ Conrads is very useful for someone just getting started. If I was going to recommend one book for a person just starting out, it would be the Traditional Bowhunters Handbook.

Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by T.J. Conrads will prove beneficial to you in many ways long after you are no longer a "Rookie". I refer to my copy often, in season and out. After that I would recommend Fred Asbells book. These will answer many questions as well. Good luck and keep it simple.

Kinda depends on what you are looking for, but T.J.'s TB Handbook is great for fundamentals on a wide variety of archery topics.

I like that book. As a matter of fact I have a hardback edition. And I hear there may be a sequel.

An Archer's Inner Life by Dave Sigurslid is an under-recognized gem. Hunting From Home by Chris Camuto is another must-read.

In no particular order:

These first ones are for pure reading pleasure, just good stories.

Come November

Best of Traditional Bowhunter

Bows on the Little Delta

Longbows in the far North

Longbw Country

Hunting the Osage Bow

A Thousand Campfires

Informational, technical and how to catagory would be:

Hunting the Osage Bow

Come November

Traditional Bowhunters Handbook

Become the Arrow

Instinctive shooting

Stalking and Stillhunting

Traditional Bowyers Bible (the whole set)

Instinctive Archery Insights

I put both Hunting the Osage Bow and Come November in both catagories as they are both very informative as "how to's" AND they are both just a great read.

I'm very new to this myself (bought my first longbow in May).  The first book I bought was "Traditional Bowhunter's Handbook" by TJ Conrads.  I learned a lot from it and would recommend it for a fellow newbie.

I have read all of the above and agree with them all. I especially like all the fred bear books, Little Delta, and the Don Thomas books. I would also add the book about Chester Stevenson called, from the den of the old bowhunter.

Oh yeah, you can't them anymore but Jay Massey's books are second to none.

Let me mention a book, which IMHO does not get the reputation it deserves - and can therefore found at that big auction site once in a while for cheap:

SCHUYLER, K.C. (1970): Archery, From Golds to Big Game. – 569 p., >250 figs.; New York (Castle Books).

Published just a little ahead of the compound aera it deals with all the stuff you might want to know about ...
