Not sure what kind of snake it is.... he came in and hung out for a while before she wacked it a couple of times with her arrow and ran it off....
I guess there's a first time for everything!!!!
If that had been my wife she would have destroyed the blind trying to kill that snake!
Would have been an expensive snake.
Yuck!!

It is a garter/ribbon snake of some kind nothing to worry about.
It amazes me everytime I read these comments on these forums with all of these "hunters" Afraid of snakes. I just don't get it.
I have worked with reptiles since I was a kid and don't think that there are a handfull that actually scare me. 15 foot King cobra, Black mamba, Boomslang, I am sure some Austrailain species as well. These don't even scare me just deserve some more respect.
Me personaly I don't think you should kill what you won't eat or at least utilize ie. skins.
Fear is an amazing thing as how people react.
Just my 2cents.
I think she thought it was kind of cute, spared it's life...
I thought it was wierd that it was about 28 degrees here this morning... then we got a snake runnin around at two oclock in the afternoon
Some reptiles are more adapt to cold weather and as long as they can get their temperature up to what they need via thermoregulation they are good to go. Some amphibians even have a form of antifreeze in their blood.
Not sure where you are located so I can't say the exact species but it is a Garter Snake. It is harmless and good to see your wife didn't kill it. You will probably see them out in the open more now because they are trying to thermoregulate to keep warm and searching for a hybernaculum to over winter in. Cool find!

Cute little duffer.
Would make a nice backing on a kids bow!
Don't pick it up. It'll get funk all over your hands. They STINK!

Yep, I bet things got real exciting for awhile. For whatever reason, I just don't like those nasty things. Of course I really don't care for Clowns either!
:scared:
Either one of those things come in my blind, there's a good chance of 'em gettin' thumped! :biglaugh:

like i keep saying the only good snake is a dead one. and any one that likes snakes is not right in the head. :biglaugh:
I don't mind most snakes. It is just the really hissed off poisonous types that I don't like.
Being from New Zeland I totally understand that comment :-) - don't you have some really poisonous snakes there? That's a garter snake and it's about as dangerous as an earthworm.
We do have some poisonous snakes but nothing like Tipans or Cobras or Mambas. Those poor blokes in Australia have it bad.

SOme people are still seeing Rattle snakes on the trails here. Sat and sun we had near 80* weather though. that pic above rocks.. Seriously!!
I sure don't mind little guys like that. Played with them all day when I was a kid. Won't hurt you, might poop on you, though.
However, clowns are downright CREEPY. And they just get all nasty when you hit 'em with a stick!
There is nothing more frightening than a clown!
(maybe a mime?)
I ran across a garter snake in White Co (North Georgia). There was a slight skiff of snow on the ground. I think they are a species that can stand a bit more cold than some others. I believe they are found pretty far up north.
