Title: Wood Arrow weight?

I am shooting 5/16 40-45 cedar 29" shaft with a 125gr head. They shoot great out of my 50# @ my 27" draw lamanated wood bamboo backed bow. But they only weigh 480gr. I would like to have more weight. I want to stay with cedar for strightness. Could I go to 50-55 and cut them longer or add weight to the tip? A heavyer spine shaft should be denser and weigh more. My 5/16 40-45s weigh more than my 11/32 40-45s. Help me if you can.

Cedar varies in weight quite a bit.  480 gr for a finished 5/16 cedar is very heavy.  Going up in spine won't necessarily get you a heavier shaft, but it will let you shoot a longer arrow and heavier point, both of which will increase weight.  11/32 will also be heavier.  I would suggest ordering matched shafts and telling your supplier that you want them heavy and the finished arrow weight you are looking for.  You can also find straight shafting in woods other than cedar. Surewood Fir and HexPine from Whispering Wind are both quite good and heavier than cedar.
