Title: Recurve power
Post by: BCBubba on October 19, 2008, 07:43:00 PM
Hey Gang,

I have a 47# Wing Archery Recurve, Being new to the Traditional style of Archery, I have a question...Is my 47# Bow powerful enough to kill deer,hogs..etc? or should I be looking for a higher poundage bow? thanks everyone.

IMHO it's plenty for deer.(i have no experience with hogs)
Tuned arrow flight, and sharp broadheads are key.

That bow will kill anything in North America.

Here is a test I conducted last year with a 44# @ 28" recurve and a 50# @28" longbow.  Shoot both through a Chronograph with the same arrows.  The heavier draw weight longbow was only about 2 fps on average faster than the recurve.  They both shoot point of aim very well.

your bow along with proper arrow placement and sharp broadheads will harvest any deer or hog in this great country
