Title: Questions about ribteks
Post by: Soilarch on October 19, 2008, 06:38:00 PM
1. Any problems using with inserts?
2. How wide are the "wides" (Purely curiosity on this one)
3. Are they on the softer (WW) or harder (Grizzly) side?

I know there's about a 1,000 good broadheads out there but are there any others that are as "cheap", solid, AND available in a variety of weights?
I've found the ribteks as low as $1.60 without inserts.  Seems most other "cheap" head start at $2 or $3.

I'm not sure on those first few questions but the availability is probably going to go down.  I was informed by another tradganger that the maker of the Rebteks just completely vanished down in his home in Australia.  Nobody knows what happened to him, so if I were you I would decide and get all you can!  :D

Soilarch,

Ribteks tend to have smallish ferrules, they will fit on 11/32" but not great, a lot of Ribbie shooters prefer them on 5/16" adapters.

I believe the "Wides" are 1 1/4".

The steel on the Ribtek was similar to a Woodsman, 45 HRC but they are different.  The blade edge is actually highly compressed, which makes the cutting edge harder.  They sharpen well.

The original operation was recently sold to a large archery shop in Australia.  Heads have been harder to get since then.  I'm not sure if they are still making them, or just bought out all the current inventory.

leewillis, I'd not heard about that.  Are you talking about the new owner or the original? I forget his name...Colonel somebody I think.

I am shooting the 145W's with a 100gr. insert.
They fly awesome! Very easy to get scary sharp!
I have taken one doe with this set up.
26 yards double lung, would have been a pass through, but the head buried in the knuckle on the opposite shoulder.
Head is intact and ready to kill again!

Hi All,

The originator's name was Colin....Col for short.  I made the same error.  :-)  No, I don't remember his last name...it's on the last computer and didn't make the transition to the new data base.

Col Graham was the maker of Rib Teks.

Its my understanding that Archery Supplies bought a large amount of his stock.

I don't know what Col Graham is doing now, or if he has any plans to produce Rib Teks at some future date.
