I have some WW broadheads and read their technique on sharpening. I used the file and have a Montac sharpening hone. Do I pull the broadhead towards me as I did the file, or the way the montac instructions show in the side to side motion??? Thanks, Scott
I pull the rear of the WW towards me. Hap
I put the broadhead on an arrow and file away from me or from back of broadhead to tip. filing two edges at once. start out with 20 heavy passes on each of the three sides then work less pressure and less strokes
Clamp the file to the table, and push the blade along it, point forward.
I am with Hot Hap, I just lay my 12-16" Nicholson Mill Bastard on the bench and hold the WW in my hand and drag backwards , two blades down on the file. Be sure to mark your edges of the WW with a sharpie. This will help you see when all the blades are cleaned up and ready for the stone, then the leather. Can shave my face with them at that point.

Not to take this thread "off in the bushes", but I've pushed and pulled with about equal results. I think the How-to video even states as much. One thing I have noticed, when using marker on the edges to indicate where metal is not being removed, I consistently notice a section in the mid to front 1/3 of the blade furthest away from me where metal is harder to remove. This pattern will usually show up on all 3 turns. I'll see this on Snuffers also, so I assumed I was just putting more pressure on the blade closest to me. But using a two-handed on both ends of the ferrule vs. one-handed on the middle of the ferrule while trying to put more pressure on the outer blade seems to make little difference. Some of these heads are second hand and may have been sharpened with a hand held file. You'd think if that were the case the pattern would show on both blades equally. Anybody else have this problem?
I'd guess something with heat-treat. That's where there's the most metal. That section would take the longest to heat and the longest to cool.
Might explain why they were seconds.
Thanks, I guess I did them right, I used my file, then used both sides of the montac hone, then finished up on leather. They are sharp, but the instructions on the montac showed a side to side sharpening that I didnt like. All is clear now, thanks again...Scott
