Title: Horse Bows
Post by: Bowregard on October 16, 2008, 05:28:00 PM
Does anyone know anything about Horse Bows? I recently saw a T.V. show about ancient cultures, and a guy on that program was demonstrating a replica of a Horse Bow, saying they achieved very high arrow speeds. I know nothing about these bows and the program got me to wondering about their pro's and con's. Would they be suitable, and legal, for hunting now? Just curious...

Bow.....

Google horsebow and you'll pull up at least half a dozen companies that sell them.  Saluki bows has them I know. There are always a couple of ads in 'Traditional Bowhunter'.   They're short and easy to handle providing accurate shots from horseback.  I'm sure they'd make ideal bows for heavy brush.

Check out the Korean Traditional Archery site, and Thomas Duvernay for stuff on horsebows.

Japp Koppedrayer's site "Yumi" has some info on them too.

C.Constantine's Spitfire horse bows site has a lot of info on this style of bow, and a shooting tutorial for the Mongolian style of shooting.
