Title: Helical Question
Post by: jcarter on October 14, 2008, 09:35:00 AM
I have been having a problem getting my fletching jig to "consistently" put a Right Helical on my 5 in bananna fletchings. SOme look great others, not so much! My jig is a Jo Jan Fletcher.

Is the helical necessary?  With 5 in fletchings won't they stabilize my arrow flight enough?

29 in draw @ 61#, 29 1/2 in arrow, 125 Gr 2 blade Magnus. Arrows are PO Cedar

I've been doing LH Helical on my JoJan rig.   It took me a bit of trial and error to get everything lined up correctly on the arrow so that the fletch sits fairly flat on the arrow.   If you don't then they will start to peal away from the shaft.

I use fletch tape tape on mine. With just a dab of glue at the ends of the fletch.

Honestly I don't see much difference in arrow flight between the helical and a slightly offset straight fletch.

I use a straight, slightly offset fletch with my JoJan straight fletcher with good results. Pat

I have the muti-joJan and I use left wing helical. I set the front & back so that the jig so that the clamp sits on the shaft the full length.

I use the straight with offset for flu-flus
