Yes Deer Dander works amazingly well! Really helps to keep the deer that come in close, nice and calm. My Wal-mart doesn't have it either.
-
you must be kidding. Deer Dander???? Shiznit? Whazzzzup, my brotha?
-
With all the "natural" products out I could end up carrying more of a deer to my stand then out. :banghead:

Deer Dander works. My experiences mirror what Jim B. said above. Never used VK.
-
VK. Doesn't sound like anything more than I could find at Dillons. I have sprayed Vanilla Extract on my boots years ago and had an 8 pt. follow it like a bird dog right up to my tree.
-
i do not use many but i swore by Deer Dander, Wally world carried it for awhile, not sure where to get it now.
-
I believe that the key with all scents is to use something that hasn't been associated with danger. For example on one lease that I hunted, a hunter on adjacent property regularly used Vanilla Extract as a cover scent and attractent. On that lease VK or Vanilla seemed to make the deer more nervous.
Six miles away, I was the only person using it and I was very careful to avoid spooking deer in other ways. It was very effective there.
I believe that the same model holds true for deer urine. I noted in another post that the best urine scents I had used were fresh and from local deer. I believe that the effectiveness was due to the fact that the scent was familiar. On the other hand, using an unfamiliar dominant buck scent has a tendency to make subordinant bucks more tense (in my experience).
I had more success with VK than Deer Dander when I was using them.

I love the deer dander!! Have one bottle left, so I'd be interested knowing where i could pick up some more. Good Luck

I haven't used Deer Dander but a friend of mine does. He sprays himself with it and tells me the deer react a lot less if they smell him.
Couple of weeks ago we were hunting. I didn't know that he was sprayed down with it. I was walking behind him and the wind swirled towards me. I stopped and started looking for a deer. Turns out it was just him. I think I might try some this year.

I have used it for years and swear by it. It is a great scent. My first few deer(archery) were killed while licking branches that I sprayed with VK. Like stated above, once they associate it with danger, forget it.
My wally world isnt carrying it either. Glad I have a little left from last year.
Dan Fitzgerald is one heck of a scent maker, IMO.

Deer Dander is AWESOME!!!!

Dear Dander is an amazing product. I have deer following my trails out of the woods. Not to mention that i had a pretty decent buck practically run in on my own trail to find the owner of the scent. I spray my clothes and feet...smell pretty bad, but you get used to it.

Deer Dander , can get it at the big "C's". I've had good luck with it also. Use to buy it on sale for $5 less then it sells for now. Good cover scent!
-
If you do a search for deer dander you'll find several places that sell it.
-
Hey Paul, I actually like the smell of that stuff!!
Just goes to show how I smell normally I guess!
-
Ordered them both this morning. Had some cabelas cash to use so I got them for free. Need all the help I can get. Still going for number 1.

Never had it, but Selsun Blue should take care of that deer dander-uff, Bearheart. The typical cause is the deer out smarting you, and you're left scratching your head wondering what went wrong - that's where the flakes come from. LOL.
Hope all is well on your side of the country. Steve

We have used both products, and have come to the conclusion that they work, in fact they work better than any other attractant or cover scent in years.
For those of you who have been around a while, years ago Russell Hull once marketed a product called cover up, it was dark green and smelled of vanilla extract. I have used the extract, but the imitation extract, don't use the real thing because it has alcohol in it.
When we can't get the deer dander, or VK, we will use the extract, or no cover at all. The only other scent we use, during the rut, and pre or post is Hawgs Unlimited Buck Fever scents. The best thing going, and it will not go bad from season to season.
