I am looking for opinions on what is a good, tunable Deer grunt call. I am using a Primos which has limited tuning abilities and I cannot get it to sound like I would like. More important, how the Deer would like. Your opinions are appreciated.

I have used a bunch over the years and haven't found much difference in most of them. I have had some that were junk, but most of the good ones are just about equal. I currently have the Knight & Hale easy grunter and it works as well as any, but no better than most.

I like my tru talker

I'll second the tru talker. But I carry the Primos buck roar too, because I can get a lot more volume out of it than the tru talker.

Tru Talker is the best I have found. AT a wally world price of $9.95 it has a better sound than the expensive ones. It is not super loud but loud enough 90% of the time. It also makes good bleets. Just blow through it with no reed presure for a grunt and put some reed pressure in the center of the reed for a bleet. Good luck, steve

Another vote for the Tru Talker, it's not too expensive and you can easily get a lot of different sounds out just by putting pressure on the reed in different locations.

Thanks for the help guys. Certainly appreciated.

I've used a Woods Wise 6 in 1 grunt tube for years.. Called many deer in with this call. I'm not sure they are still made...

I spent 5 years attending Penn State Behrend in Erie, PA. It was about 1.75 hours north of my parents house. Every time i;d get in the car to make the trip I would practice producing grunts and doe bleets with my mouth.
After practicing for a few trips to Erie I had it down, and the best thing is that no movement to put the call to your mouth or adjust to get a young or mature buck sound. Same goes for the doe bleet.
The only set-back and it is a major one, is that while in late season with any kind of scratchy throat or cough, I can't make the grunts or bleets sound good at all. also I tend to hack and cough and spook everything within a mile. Needless to say I don't try that anymore with any sign of a cold coming on.

I will second what cpnhgnlngct just said. A mouth produced call is very effective and has brough quite a few deer in for me over the years.

HS Strut tru talker is the only one I use the only one i have ever had a response to

I have tried several brand name calls and never had much responce to any of them. I think the number of deer and the buck to doe ratio has to right to get the results we'd like to see. Around me its not!!

I'd be lost without my tru-talker.
