I was going to do a poll with this, but I'm not sure how to set it up. The poll about average shot distance a while ago was very good, but I was wondering if those yardages stayed true with mature bucks (3.5 years old or older). Please list shot distance along with whether in a tree stand or on the ground.
If someone would like to set this up as a poll that would be great too, I would just like to hear the info and see if there is any kind of pattern here.
I killed a 3.5 year old 10pt and a 5.5 year old 10pt last year. Both on the ground the younger one at about 15 yards and the older at about 20
best to differentiate between mulies and whitetails...
12,15,15,15,17,22,23,27 paces. Avg= 18.25
Two on the ground, 6 from trees.
Let's say just whitetails. So far the average seems to be about 15-20 yards, which is a tad outside my effective range yet for my first year.
Has anyone had a chance at a mature buck under these yardages and blew it for one reason or another?
Don't like to talk about them but it happens.
One 3 1/2 from NY state 8 yards and one 5 1/2 from Ontario 8 yards,,,Frank

Killed lots of deer, big ones, maybe 4 that I consider big, 3 yards, 7 yards, 7 yards and and 2 yards. All from the base of the tree or stand. about 4.7 yards average. Shawn
