Title: Bow case?
Post by: Jeremy on October 08, 2008, 02:21:00 PM
I looking at getting a bow case for a 3pc T/D and was looking for opinions.

Right now I'm considering the Safari Tuff or a breakdown shotgun case.

The safari tuff can be packed in a bag for travel

The shot gun case can hold the arrows as well (with a little modification) and can either be checked as baggage (for a fee now!!) or mailed as is.

Any thoughts?  Other recommendations?

I use the Safari Tuff case for traveling and love it!  I use a PVC tube for my arrows, and it all fits nicely in a duffle bag.  Both have always arrived safe and sound so far.

If I take a second bag on a trip (and I usually do) it is a cooler with built in wheels.  I throw the duffel on top - very easy to wheel through the airport long distances.  I also usually pack an empty duffel bag so that if I have meat to bring home whatever was in the cooler on the way out can go in the spare duffel on the way back, either as a third checked bagged or shipped seperately.

This isn't a good case for air travel, but this is what I used pack up my takedown bow, arrows, and other gear for a bear hunt in Ontario this summer. It worked great and it's cheap. My bow was originally shipped to me in a cardboard box surrounded by die-cut foam matching the outline of the riser and limbs. The foam fit perfectly in one half of the case and a dozen arrows fit in the other half of the case. There are also several decent sized compartments for other stuff.

Check out the Pelican cases.  I think you would need the 1700 or 1720 series depending on the length of your bow.  They look to be about the best travel cases, at least for airline travel.  Just make sure they are of size that you won't get killed in oversized baggage charges.  You can cut the foam to whatever size you need for a tight fit...Mike

Since you have to pay a fee-I manage an airport and see these things daily-why not maximize your fee?  i recommend a hard golf bag case.  Bow, arrows, clothes misc all in one travel case-well protected and not noticable as a weapon.  bow and arrows in center with clothes packed around them for added protection.
