The season has been open since last week but this morning was my first chance to get into the woods. There is a 1100 acre public land area about 4 miles from the house and that is where I decided to hunt.
I got to the WMA and started slipping down an old logging road. After an hour and a half I saw movement not very far away and began my stalk. It didn't take long before I was within about 8 yards. Talk about getting close. When he wasn't looking I drew back and released only to miss and at 8 yards!
Thinking back on it I know I didn't pick the specific hair to hit. Rookie mistake but that is what I am. I shot at the whole critter. Even so I didn't miss by more than 6 inches and that field mouse set a new record for the rodent high jump.
:archer:
(chuckling) Picking a hair is one of the two things I most forget to do! Keep trying! :D
If you got to within 8 yards of a deer you beat him at his game in his neighborhood! Unfortunately you didn't take home the prise. Better luck next time. I missed the first 9 I shot at. Hopefully you can do better than me. Pat
Huntin mice without a backup? Are you crazy man?
;)I guess you'll go hungry good practice though.
Dont worry about it too much, it has happend to me many times and im sure it will again good kuck next time.
Be warned. FMF (Field mouse fever) is much worse than buck fever. Even with FMF as bad as it is I am tempted to go after him again tomarrow.
