Hey guys, I'm in a little fix. My Wife was ill and off work for about six weeks. She's A-OK now and back to work but we are now counting every penny for awhile. My problem is I have shot my target to pieces. Does anyone have any ideas for dirt cheap homemade targets. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you can find a burlap bag or a box etc. you can stuff it with the celophane they use to wrap pallets of stuff. I got a bunch of the celophane from my local grocer one night while they were stocking. The celophane doesn't stop broadheads that good but works great on field tips and is easy removal of arrow. Hope this helps!

I stuff seed bags with catalogs, cardboard, worn clothing, plastic bags and straw. I use whatever I have on hand at the time. When they get a little soft, I just add a few more catalogs and duct tape the top again. Mine have taken thousands of hits and are still going strong.

Being a teacher, I've access to a large, lawn-covered oval. All you need is blunt-tipped arrows (the best are Ace Hex heads) and a plastic soft-dring bottle, and shoot 'til your heart's content! You won't lose arrows, and they won't bounce too far.
If I had discovered this a few years ago, I would've saved a pretty penny instead of going through three The Block targets and one Yellow Jacket. Much more fun, the old soft-drink bottle, too!
We bought a couple of straw bales for $5 each and they have lasted *way* longer than the last $40 target I bought before that. Heh - they're still going strong.
I have a secret broadhead targets.Go to tractor suply they have foam blocks to seperate the trailers glue 4 togther with liquid nail.

I use these, I picked up as many as my car could handle (around 20?) for free and glued them up in a couple 3x3 and 2x2 configurations for the back yard.
They'll stop broadhead tipped axis arrows from my 350fps compound, and have no problems with the recurves.
you can goto kb toys and buy one of those cheap boogie boards, the boards are made from a high density foam, they can take alot of shots!
bout 4 years ago i got ahold of a bunch of discarded carpeting,,cut it in
4'lengths12" wide. stacked it up to about 4' tall,then tied it together with rope.my whole neighborhood shoots at this.Broadheads too.I put it into a wood frame.pretty easy removal.whole thing costs nothing but time and rope.you cant wear this thing out.even stopped my .45 acp.KEN
we have a section on making "restorable" targets on the Hill Longbowmen website... you might get some good ideas there. I made two using insulation foam to make a target block, then cutting the center out and filling it with canned expanding foam... as it shoots out, I can just squirt another $5 can's worth into the shot out area.

Has anyone tried using a stall matt from Tractor Supply (used on the floor of horse stalls)? The mat is about 4 ft x 6 ft and is 3/4" thick. It looks like it is made from ground rubber (maybe tires) and the rubber particles might be a little rough on a arrow but it looks like it would sure stop and arrow.
