I was reading PastorSteve's thread about forearm slap with renewed interest. I had been shooting my longbow groups OK (not great)w/ no wrist slaps. But just last nite it was cold enough to practice with my heavy coat on. Even with a forearm guard, I'm getting some slight contact with the string. It sometimes affects my impact point to a modest degree, but more notably I see increased arrow wobble in flight. With hunting season already upon me, should I be messing with a new grip now? Am I losing significant speed when point of impact is say, 3" lower than normal at 20 yds?
Not only will forearm slap create poor arrow performance it can cost you game. Trust me on that one! It should take only a minor adjustment to your shooting form/grip to keep the string away from your forearm. It's never to late to get things right! -ART B
practice just like hunting. Get perfect arrow flight no matter what your wearing.

Have the same problem with my hunting gear on . I wrap my bow arm with rubber bands in the problem areas this does the trick .

yeah, I know I should've...but it's so hard putting on my Cabelas Grand Slam Fleece when it's 82 deg. in the shade! In years past, any slap was taken care of by stretching a long sock w/ finger holes over the sleeve, so I figured I'd be good again this time. Well, I've since made adjustments to my grip (higher in the web, as mentioned elsewhere), and that not only stopped the slap but tightened my groups as well. It still feels "un-natural" at first draw, but should feel right with a few more sessions. I was pretty nervous about hunting 2 days after adjustments, but I never got to test it anyhow. Won't be able to get back out for awhile, so I should be good to go by then...thanks for the advice guys!
I get bad forearm slap with some bows and with some I don't. The ones where I get the slap eventually get sold. Try opening up your stance a little. Also, can you raise the brace height on your bow a bit? Sometimes only 1/8 inch can make a big difference. Wool jackets have helped me here as well with less bulk, but plenty of warmth when compared to some of the insulated jackets out there.
Good Luck
