Title: Any traditional archery shop or bowyer in Kansas City ?
Post by: joeare on October 02, 2008, 03:03:00 PM
Well, I know there must be something.
I am flying to Kansas City for a business trip the next two weeks and want to buy some stuff. Please let me know the adress of the shop / bowyer that you recommend.

Thanks a lot!
Joe

There is a traditional archery shop in Winchester, Kansas about 30 minutes northwest of Kansas City,Kansas. His name is Mike Horton and he carries a lot of traditional stuff and some used bows. As far as hunting gear you could try Cabelas store also in Kansas City,Kansas.  Not too many traditioal shops around, I think most guys use mail catalogs anymore.  Hope that helps.

There aren't a lot of traditional archery shops around this area. Missouri Bowman gave you the best traditional shop that I know of in this area. Mike is a great guy and has almost everything that 3 Rivers carries. If he doesn't have it in stock he will get it for you or special order an item for you. If you make the trip out to see Mike, take your bow with you. He has been working on setting up a short walkthrough range behind his shop.

Another person the sells traditional archery items is Braveheart Archery. I am not sure if he has an actual shop or if he works from phone and email orders only. Tim Harms runs Braveheart Archery.

Both of these businesses are sponsors of this site so you can look them up under the Sponsor section to contact them.

Mike has a friend around Perry, Kansas who is a bowyer. The name of his company escapes me at the moment. Wild Horse, Wild Horse Creek or something along this line... Mike will know the name. Also there is Black Widow Bows located about 5 or 6 hours south of KC in Nixa, Missouri.

Where will you be staying at in KC?

Hey Steve how are you?  You always pop in here.  About the gun shop, I'm not sure anymore.  The last time I was there it was mostly compounds and such.

Mike Dunnaway makes "Wildhorse Creek" longbows.  Great bows...however, I don't believe he handles much in the way of other "equipment."

Braveheart is in KC.  He, along with The Nocking Point are sponsors.

The Nocking Point is THE place in the region for trad stuff. Plus Mike is a real great guy. And, the shop is just up the road a ways from me...  :D

Go see Mike at The Nocking Point... As good as they get. I buy 99% of my archery "stuff" from Mike. Great prices and even better service.

I would advise you to give him a phone call before you make the drive . He lives in a very rural area and sometimes has to run to town for errands. The shop is out behind his house. It is a very nice drive through some lovely countryside and worth the trip. Hope you get a chance to visit his shop. Also, since you are in the area, you might want to visit the Cabela's outdoors store over in KC Kansas...
