What do I look for when shopping for 2 way radios? Is there a brand that you recommend?
Thanks, Brian
Brian,
i would get a rechargable set or you will be buying stock in aa battaries!
Motorola talkabout
Motorola's are the one's I have.... Make sure you get one with the sub- channels so you wont have to listen to 500 other hunters during the day, and make sure you can turn off the beep the radio makes when it transmits, especially if your gonna leave it on while your hunting.
motorola for sure. had my set for many years.
Ditto Motorola
i have Motorola Talkabout and am very happy with them. keep them on vibrate and there is no beeps or noise at all.
Which model?
Motorola talkabout with the weather channel and charger.
Get one that has a vibrate feature so when your buds call it doesn't make a "beep" noise. the motorola's are what i have and have had them for 6 years. Some states dont let you use them. be carefull.
Just an FYI- If using them to pursue game, check your local game laws. Some states do not allow them to be used in the pursuit of game.
May I make a suggestion that if you are also in the market for a GPS you can knock two birds out with one stone by going with one of the Garmin Rino's.
As for two way's I have used both Motorola and Midland. I could not tell which one was better quality but the folks who owned the Midland's said customer service was better than Motorola which is way they switched.

The Motorola radios are probly the best. My Dad had a double hip replacement a few years ago and we carried a pair of cheap Cobras. They worked good but the heavy traffic on the channels was CRAZY!!!!! After the first day we decided to just turn them on every hour and check in,then turn them off again.
There are so many models of Motorola's that my head is spinning. It's vey confusing
Icom is also a very good make! ;)
Motorola, we used them as back up in the Army Guard( Supply Sgt always forgot to bring and or order batts for our issued stuff)
They will cover any distance you will be from your son.
