to the gentlemen who answer my cry howard hill bow ,27" draw guys iam thinking iam getting in over my head may be i need to stick with my wood arrows what do you think. i do not know how far passed center the longbow is.
Need to know what the difficulty is--arrow flight?
Hi All,
I bought and used up twelve fiberglass arrows, then twelve aluminum arrows, and went back to the woodies I've been shooting since about 1960. The deer don't seem to know the difference. :D
What draw weight is your bow? Arrows need to match stiffness (spine) for the weight of the bow. Some more experience folks will be along to help after you tell us the draw weight.
90# at 27"
No Howard Hill bows are not cut past center, especially the heavier Howard Hills. The riser on Hill's are not large enough to cut them past center. They usally take a weaker spine then a recurve does because recurves are usally cut past center.Bows like HH not cut to center seem to be more critical of spine. My Hill's for me seem to shoot aluminum and wood better then carbon arrows. Now my HH Jungle Cat 75#@28 I shoot 80-84# douglas fir with 190 gr. points, they came out aroung 700 grs..Carbon arrows recover 5 times faster from the paradox, some times they seem to bounce off the riser instead of flexing around it.This has been my experience with them, but I sure others shoot carbons out of Hill bows given the right combo.I find bows that are not cut to center seem to shoot carbons better if they are left longer.I would start at full length and trim and tune from there with the point weight you plan too shoot.Check on the HowardHillLongbowman.com site, there are guys on there shooting heavy Hill bows.
I would like to thank all who responded for their help. bamabill

You give your draw length, however we don't know how long you cut your arrows to back of point. I would assume 28" if that is so I would choose 80/84's or 85/89's.

Guys I have not cut any arrows off yet.The arrows are 100# gold tips,I know they can wind to stiff if I go to just cutting with out some idea of what Iam doing and be over spined. I was hoping some one could get me in the ball park on cut off lenght and broadhead weight.I dont think they are over spined at full lenght 32" if they are I have arrows I can not use.
What Gold Tips do you have? The Gold Tips that I have and worked with are all marked with the spine wts. such as 35/55, 55/75, and 75/95.
