Title: Rug Wear?
Post by: mscampbell75 on October 01, 2008, 11:48:00 AM
I'm getting exessive rug wear and my bottom flectch (cock feather out) seems to be getting slightly abused as well.  :knothead:  !!

This is on my Iron Mountain longbow 53#@28 with a brace @ 5.25" and nock set @ .5" with arrow under nock.  I'm shooting three under.  Does all this seem about right?  As I said, My bareshaft tuning seems ok.  The brace was set by the previous owner,  I have yet to completely set a bow up by myself so I'm constantly 2nd guessing myself.

That lower hen feather always takes abuse.  It will generally wear faster than the other two, unless you shoot cock feather in.  Brace height seems very low to me.  Not familiar with your particular bow, but a brace hight of 6 1/2 inches is fairly common on a lot of glass laminated longbows; about 6 inches on self bows.

I'm going to move it up to 6.5" and see how it shoot.  It sounded low to me also, but like I said, I am 2nd guessing myself since all this is new to me.
