Out to enjoy the beauty of creation this afternoon, if nothing else!
I always hope for a "close encounter," but s-o-m-e-t-i-m-e-s, I even get a shot at some meat for the freezer. Sure looking forward to time in the woods. Good luck to all!!
Daryl
Was a beautiful day in the Illinois woods. Half hour into the hunt I took a nice doe. Ended up spending more time taking care of meat than hunting today.
Excuse the poor quality pics. I use movie film or video cams and these are a couple frame grabs off video I took today.

I won't be able to get out until Friday, but I'm glad it's finally here. I love this time of year!
Burnsie
I'll be hunting all this weekend and everyone after this. Hopefully some weekdays depending on school.
It was a Great evening to be on stand tonight. The weather was nice and the wind died down to nothing here. I missed the morning hunt as I got hit with a round of stomach flu last night (6 hours of hell). I saw one good shooter but he kept just a little out of my range! I also saw 3 does, 4 yearlings, and 2 small bucks (a forky and a seven pointer). I could have taken several of the does but it's still a little warm to work that hard!
Congrats on the doe Tom, and good luck to all of you.
adeeden,
Did your son get his the other day?
I hunted all afternoon. Didn't see any deer. I donated a lot of blood to the mosquitoes though.
Nice Job Tom! Hope we see you at GISH.
Chuck
I was able to get out tonight with my son. The boy saw 9-4 bucks. I donated blood also. Hap
I got skunked tonight too Hap. It's just a matter of time though. Good luck.
Don't be wasting any time, Tom. Congratulations!! I took the day off today and as out all day. Saw a few early, but too far, did some stand work and hung another one, and had a forky in this evening. So, no shots taken, but a really nice day. The nettles tho, are the worst I've ever seen them.
See ya at GISH!
Not a matter of wasting time Rick, just hungry. :)
Everybody is telling me how bad the bugs are this year but I'm not seeing it, and I'm in the woods about every day. The beagles aren't even picking up ticks, mosquitoes almost non-existent, and I'm not running through nearly as many spider webs strung through the branches as I usually do.
Maybe global warming is localized to Madison County and killing them off. :saywhat:
Will there be bugs at GISH this year?
Great work, LongTombo!! You must have been out walking around for squirrels, or somethin'...
Hunting on the ground this evening, I had a fawn (no spots) at 15 yards, a yearling doe at 18, and an old boss doe at 30 yards that had let the others walk past her and stayed back to watch. Don't know if it was scent, sight, or ESP but she knew something wasn't "right." I think I could have killed the fawn, but just didn't want to. Don't know if I could have made the draw without ol' LongNose blowing out, anyway. It was a fine night in the woods (but skeeters were bad after the wind dropped).
Daryl
Got to sit from 5 to dark. I was in a wooded draw overlooking several acres of grown up brush. Momma and little one were bedded about 110 yds away and got up about 6:30. They went the other way. Wasn't to bad, just a couple of skeeters when the wind died down.
I'm ready! Will get out this weekend if nothing comes up.
I was out for 3 1/2 hours in the moring and 6+ hours in the afternoon - saw (too far for any shot) 8 does and yearlings at 6:15 p.m.
Worst skeeters I have seen in a long time, and me without my Thermacell. I will have it tomorrow and for the weekend.
