Hey guys,
I just bought an old Bear Kodiak Magnum at a garage sale. The limbs and riser are covered in 3 or 4 different colors of paint that someone slopped on to try and camoflage it. The bow is in good condition overall, but I want to take the paint off. I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to remove the paint without damaging the finish on the bow. Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Use some old rough terry cloth with laquer thinner. Do this outside and wear rubber gloves. Go slowly and rub only hard enough to get the paint off. When you get the paint off, buff it out with Kit Scratch Out or any other good automotive clearcoat polish. Good luck uncovering a treasure. CKruse
CKRUSE HAS IT RIGHT. WHEN YOU'RE DONE LAY THE RAGS OUT ON THE LAWN AND LET THE SOLVENT EVAPORATE AWAY. DO NOT BUNCH THEM UP OR TOSS IN A TRASH CAN WHEN STILL DAMP WITH SOLVENT.

I have used this stuff with great results. Just a little and some 0000 steel wool will take 99% of the paints off with minimal effort. It's so easy it really ticked some friends of mine off when they passed on a bow that they thought would be too much effort for them. I bought the bow and in 10 minutes had it looking brand new. :D
awesome, do they sell that at regular hardware stores like menards or home depot?
If you want a very nice job of restoration talk to the bowdoc. He refinished a 1956 bear kodiak special for me this past summer. Cost was about $150 but worth every penny. It came back perfect My buddy used it to kill a 400 lb black bear in MN in Sept. He got very good penetration with a 2 blade buzzcut and grizzley sticks.
This is good stuff right here. I've got a Hatfield with black paint on the limbs. Not sure if it's supposed to be originally or if it was added, but I want to know what's underneath.
I picked that can up at Home Depot I think. It goes a long way. You can probably do 2 dozen bows with that size can. It doesn't hurt the fiberglass at all either.
