I was going through some of my dads old hunting stuff and found these medium weight plaid jackets. Would these work for hunting, like is the pattern/colors good for hunting? I would be wearing then with some old camo wool pants. What have been your experience with wearing this kinda stuff. And my last question why am I wanting to wear this instead of my carbon suit with scent blocker and is rain repellent? haha

me and a few guy where talking about it at camp in South Africa and realized that quite a few of my kills walk and stalk with the bow have been when i have not been wearing a shirt at all. but i do like hunting with my netted hunting shirts.

im not convinced about the sent blocket stuff.  

I'm not a fan of cotton in general for most outdoor activities.  I have several of these shirt-jacks and they are fine for times when moisture isn't an issue but for hunting, I prefer synthetics or wool.  

The camo patterns are fine though.  I especially like the black on white.  It will melt into any background.

Cotton is great when it's warm out, but will freeze your keister off when it's cold.  The gray and white one will disappear in the oaks and boulders.  The dark one would be good in a dark background, blind, or pines.

Ya, I plan on using these when the weather will be dry, if its calling for rain ill stick with the rain repellant gear. I like being dry haha

Also I will only be wearing these this fall when the weather isnt to cold. I am thinking of buying some heavier wool for the winter, any suggestions?

I also prefer the black on white over the blue. However, I am a big fan of wool, not cotton, and not the nylon lined shirt jacks. As for color, the black on white will do just fine. I've taken several animals in my black on white wool shirt. As for why wear this over your carbon lined scent free clothing? Cause your daddy wore it. That says it all.  This season, I'm hunting with some old, green, Bear Razorheads sent to me by my bowhunting mentor, who can no longer hunt with a bow due to a shoulder problem. I'm using his heads to honor him. We will both be thrilled if I am able to take a deer or hog with one of his old heads. He is in Virginia and I reside in Texas and hunt in Oklahoma, but you can bet my old bud will be with me on every hunt this season.  :thumbsup:

I've always heard deer see BLUE: like it was blaze orange to us!!  Dont know if that is true.

You're probably thinking of the whole "UV Brightener" thing.   Apparently some dyes and detergents nowadays have whatever a "UV Brightener" is in them.


They're suppose to show up to deer like a blue version of our blaze orange.

Personally don't buy it, but many do.

Easy way to test for these brighteners is to go into a dark room with your gear and turn on a UV black light.   They'll glow like a t-shirt at a dance party if they've got the brighteners.

Never tested my stuff personally.  Don't want to buy the light...don't want to "need" new clothes...and like I said..."Personally don't buy it."  :)
