Everyone is in season or getting real close. I was wondering???
Other than your normal gear--bow,glove,tab ect..
What one "thing" will you NOT go to the woods without? An item so important that you will not leave home without it or turn around and go back home to get?
For me it is a full canteen.
JDS III
GPS
Blood Glucose Meter
A flashlight any time. To see way in and out and track at night.
compass
Knife
knife
Binoculars.. :readit:
Snickers bar.
Shoes
Binoculars
I carry them year round, watching things is half the fun.
Thermacell!
knife
my can of red seal and something to drink
Bow!
But... I only left without it one time!!
compass
flashlight without hesitation
Flashlight and compass!!!
Swiss army knife and lighter
Toilet paper.
Arrow for the bow
License.
Oh yea, the keys to my truck too....
But seriously, I'd have to say my Niff-T-Seat unless I'm for sure gonna be hunting out of a tree.
Thermacell!!!!!!!!
I forgot my arrows once.
a happy disposition
Knife (or small collection thereof).
Common Sense.
Best friend.
I hate being without a knife but I wouldn't go back to get it. A broadhead or broken rock can gut a deer.
A compass and map is required in wild places but I live in Indiana.
Honestly, there is nothing I would turn around for assuming bow, wallet (tag, license, and credit card) and proper clothing were with me.
My goal in life has become not to get more, but to learn how to need less.
Wool socks! I HATE having cold feet.
Nothing.
Sure there are some things of convenience I like to have/wish I have etc., but if I have my bow, arrows, glove, I will not turn around or stop my hunt for nothing.
I am surprised by some of the answers...you mean you cannot make it 2-4 without a drink, chew or a knife? Seriously?
TP!
If your huntin with Biggie...an extra pair of pants (Biggie size) :D :D :D :D
Seriously...I take a ton of stuff in my pack but I wouldn't go back home if I left it behind. As long as I have my bow and arrows, I'm good to go...BUT the one thing outside my "weapons of mass destruction" that I really, really, really like to have with me is a watch...really.
David
If I have my bow and arrows I'm not going back. Thanks Biggie, I knew there was something missing in my new Arrowmaster. Gotta have the T.P.
safety harness
Can I make a short list here?
1. A good knife
2. Toilet Paper
3. Thermacell (Warm weather)
4. Good comfortable shoes with extra socks
5. Spare bow string and stringer
6. An extra shooting glove
7. Light
8. 2 way radio
Notice I did not include a blaze orange bear whistle.....LOL
the "but-out-tool"..... :biglaugh: I"M KIDDING!!!!!
Well stocked fanny pack.
Binoculars for sure.
I had to go back for my arrows once! :)
I wouldn't go into the woods without a knife. Since I always have at least my Kershaw Scallion with me, I would not go back if I forgot my hunting knife but to me, going back for A knife would be worth it. In a survival situation it is the best one thing to have in my opinion. Good luck finding that sharp rock and building a shelter with it when it is freezing under two feet of snow and getting dark fast! Yes, it can be done-but I'LL go back for a knife.

Now thats funny!!
I could get by without alot of things, I've field dressed deer with Zwickey broadheads on more than one occasion. I wouldnt go hunting without a grunt tube and a diaphram turkey call.
Trap
water and a filter system

Who knows it won't end up being alot longer, accidents do happen.
Respect for mother nature and the animals I hunt. When I lose it, or forget it then I should go back home.

Have you or anyone else here actually gutted a deer with a rock, I know it can be done but seriously? haha
In my opinion some of these answers are about being comfortable. Water/dip/snickers,,,ect are all about making a day in the woods more enjoyable.
I should have added a "reserve" can of Red Seal in my pack... You can never run out sitting in a blowdown...LOL
JDS III
I didn't go back and read all the posts-what about toilet paper?
Brain.
The only thing I would head back home or to the car for is a pack of Lucky's.
:knothead:
Unscented Baby Wipes work better than TP....never leave home without them.
TP to mark a trail when tracking(go before you leave home). Mother nature will dispose of it when your gone.
I hate to get so deep, but the one thing that
none of us should lave behind is " the love of the hunt". If you don't have it, then don't go. :archer:
If it's more than a day trip, I'd have to say an alarm clock.
A picture of my wife in her high school uniform. Works all the time for keeping my hands warm!
... mike ...
:biglaugh:
I get cold hands also. Could you send a copy of that picture to me???? :bigsmyl:
Trap
What is a can of red seal? Never heard of that one.
I normally don't go into the woods without my Modern Calls hands free gunt call if I'm whitetail hunting. I've seen it work way too many times. I also won't be found without my small puffer bottle of corn starch to detect the wind direction.
All of the things mentioned plus a lot of others are in my pack which is sitting beside my bow as we speak. You cannot pick up the bow without moving the pack and if I have my bow and my pack I am ready to go hunting. Every day when I return to camp I replenish water, food, etc. then hang it by my bow so I would say the one thing I need is my pack and cant/wont go hunting without it.
My "cheaters" (reading glasses)

I won't complete my trip into work without a pocket knife. Gotta have a blade. :-D

Hell, it's rare that you could even find me watching TV without a knife somewhere on me.
I almost walked into the hospital for surgery the other day with my neck knife around my neck! :biglaugh:
I wont go w/o the deer cart, turns an hour into 10 minutes.

I'm with you!
As I sit writing this, I have a folding Gerber in my pocket and a mini leatherman in my phone holder which is right next to my (regular) Leatherman and a CRKT I use for a money clip.
In the drawer right next to that is another Gerber LST, a small Buck pen knife and three Swiss Amy Knives. On the shelf above is a pair of throwing knives (shrug) and a little Tekna fixed blade. Behind my laptop screen is an old Camillus USMC combat knife and another Tekna boot knife.
On the shelf behind me is a K-Bar kukri, a hand axe and a tomahawk and a bit beyond that is my skinning knife.
Lol - I'm ready to cut something, I'll tell ya.
My bow and Arrows!!!! :bigsmyl: :archer:
