Title: Childrens Books
Post by: Clinglish on September 24, 2008, 09:06:00 AM
I try to read to my sons every night before they go to sleep. I was wondering if there are any childrens books out there that portray hunters positivly as opposed to the "Bambi"type scenario.
Please let me know if you know of some.

I think 3 rivers offers a couple ...
one is Conner's big hunt (or something like that)
the other is Nogglestones (it's new)

How old are they? Some good adolecent books are:

Where the Red Ferns Grow.
The Yearling
My Side of the Mountain
The Sign of the Beaver
Hatchet

If they're younger a fun book, if you can find it, is Granny and the Indians by Peggy Parish  kind of a Mrs. Magoo meets the indians.

Shawn Meyer wrote "Connor's Big Hunt" and he has a few more books. Shawn is as good a guy as you will ever meet. Go to his web site and he has some good stuff on hunting with kids.  www.huntwithakid.com (http://www.huntwithakid.com)

Oh man, My Side of the Mountain was / is a great book. There are few in that series I think. I loved those. Actually just read it again when I went through my old books. Still love it.

I know my 11 year olds really like the book that Talon metioned... Hatchet. That author has some other books out that my kids really like too, but i can't remeber the names of them.
